naming units

Post by PanzerHue »

Hi,
Im playing a campaign as France and have been re-naming my divisions. But when I enter detailed (brigade) combat then the names of my divisions/brigades are changed. Not only because they split my divisions up into 2-3 brigades, but it seems some of my typed letters are exchanged with new ones; ie. a "d" becomes "x" (1er Div dInf = ...XInf).
Some other brigades get all new names, even though I recently changed them on the strategic map.
Am I missing something or does any one know why this happens?

Kind regards...

HiHi

You are not alone PH, I tried renaming some of my ships as I like to see how they fare in their travels, what I found was that, occasionally, an unrelated Uppercase letter was added to the name, trying to fix it in the following turns did nothing, seems once in, it stays, a minor irritation but posibally fixable in the Patch ... ?

Do you have a simple example for replicating this?  I tried it just with a few random units and it seemed to work as designed.  We did have problems like this with renaming units during beta testing but it had seemed that we'd fixed those problems.  Perhaps not!

it is still there Eric

I think you guys are so used to how I spell, that you think that is how I spell things

One thing I have seen, it looks like if you change the name, let it get changed, then change it again, it keeps the new corrected name

HiHi

Eric.

Sods law ain't it!? since puting up the post I have had no trouble whatsoever with names, I have however got an example and will send you the .sve files as attachments from the 1st turn where I named the vessel which shows on screen correctly and the following turn where it has additions to it's name.

PS, if you are in a good mood [:)] could you check out BJ's querie on 'Trade Wool Cotton for Textiles' re Tool Tip v's Manual at tm.asp?m=2084727, Cheers.

What is the letter limit on the length of the name? In COG1 I couldn't even rename an army to "Army of Italy" because the letter limit was so short.

I have had the same prob.   I renamed 15th Guards to 1st Old Guard and a few turns later I looked and it said 1st Old Muard.  This happened with the other Guard unit I had also.

Speaking of the Guard units.... Wow, that element needs some work.  They are way to costly (money and experience taken from other units,) take too long to make (If Guard units were created from hand picked soldiers they already have the experience and could be in ready in a month or two at most!)  So, Guard units raise local morale .2 each turn?  Big deal.  And also don't like the fact that once they drop below 8 they lose the Guard status.  The entire army's morale should be affected just with the knowledge the Guard units are in reserve and present. (at least those with a line of sight to them... Perhaps enemy units with morale of 5 or less should recieve a drop in morale etc...  The Guard are not supermen but they had aura of inviniciblity and this needs to be implemented.
