Vista 64-bit screen resolution bug

Post by briantopp »

I just want to put in a little plug to the team to consider finding a fix for the Vista-64-bit screen resolution bug. I recently built a new computer for myself (intel i7 and all that new stuff) and took advantage to upgrade to 64-bit. Alas this left TOAW behind, since the program won't screen-adjust with this OS.

Having spent many happy hours playing and designing scenarios I'd be very sad to loose the game. Hopefully a tweak is involved.

All the best,

There is a problem with not being able to use the entire screen on some widescreen systems. That on the list for 3.4.

I'm now developing on Windows 7 x64, and I'm not seeing any problem. Can you describe what's happening?

THanks,

Ralph- - what's happening, at least with me, is that the TOAW game screen (i.e. the map) takes up only part of the display- in my case the upper left hand side-and the rest is a black border.

Same problem here, I am running Windows 7 x64. I fixed it by running TOAW 3 in XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is fixed in the upcoming patch. The problem is that Windows 7 is reporting tha tyou have < 96 Meg of RAM so it's limiting your screen size.

Hi,
I'm currently using Vista 64bit OS and the first time I ran TOAW there was the partial screen thing. So I closed the game out, right clicked the desktop icon for TOAW chose Properties and went to the Compatibility tab and checked the Run this program in compatibility mode for: and then chose Windows XP (Service Pack 2).

Tadaaaa, problem fixed.

That's with a 22" widescreen Viewsonic monitor and a GeForce 9400 GT vid card.

Open the folder called C:\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War III

Try moving the Following files somewhere else for a little bit. You can watch these separately if you want, they're jsut the intro stuff. You can open them separately if you want using Media Player.

TOAW3 Intro.wmv
TOAW.wmv
Matrix Games.wmv
TOAW_Studio.avi
Talonsoft.avi

I haven't done anything with XP 64. The other things I can think of to try are

Go to C:\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War III and run Opart 3.exe directly from there.
Try going into the View meny and turn off Intro cinematics and into the view meny and turn off the sound.

Does it crash when you hit the open scenario button, or after the list comes up and you select a scenario?

Can you please try deleting the file called 'Toaw.CFG.'

It's in C:\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War III.

Thanks,
Ralph

Sorry, that was a typo, toa.cfg is the file I meant that you should delete.

Here are a couple of things to try...

Make sure that the latest (3.2) patch from the matrix site is installed.

Try right cliicking and trying several of the compatibility options (XP, ME, etc.)

Try dragging a .sce file from the scenarios folder onto Opart 2.exe. That will open it in the editor, they try 'File / Go to Game and see if that has any better effects.
