Please help - Have not played in 2 years

I bought this game approx 4 to 5 years ago. I have it on this computer but i think i have mods and such loaded. How do I patch up to the latest version. (forgot any of my log in details) and which mods are people playing and generally regarded as the most accurate and fun. Thanks in advance.

CHS and BB1.5 are popular these days, although I note a large number of new games starting in stock, probably cause AE is out soon.
