What do lower HQ units do?

Post by JSBoomer »

What do HQ units such as I Corps or 5th Airforce do in the game? I understand how HQs like SW pacifice or SE asia work, however I don't understand what the other HQs do/profide other than support points.

Do they do anything else?

They also put a commander in the hex.

Improve troops within a 1 hex radius.

You might want to read some of the threads on HQs in the "Must Read" thread section.

In reality, it depended on the army. In the German Army, Korps was a tactical/operational HQ. Division and Armee handled logistics. In the Commonwealth armies, division was a tactical/operational HQ, and Corps had more logistical responsibilities. The American and Japanese armies were like the German. A Japanese army corresponded to a Western corps. The Red Army lacked a corps echelon except for motorised/mechanised/airborne forces, where it substituted for division. Soviet armies were tactical/operational HQs.

The Red Army had Corps at the beginning of the war and then had to disband them do to the inexpierence of the command cadre available. They even disbanded many of the divisions and operated at the brigade/Army level until they were able to gain expierence. The Corps came back starting in mid 43 and they had over 100 by the end of the war.

The Air Force HQ's  cause more planes to fly missions to the prepped for target.  25% more I believe. Corp HQ's give combat bonuses in the combat hex. Check their command radius.

It's all in the book.

So if you really, really want to take or keep a base. The theater HQ can target the hex. The Air HQ can target it for pummeling and the land Front line HQ can target and give combat bouses too. Army HQ's can help too, command radius 3 I think.
