Why won't my tankers load oil?

Post by John Lansford »

It's 6/42 and I still hold Amboina and Sorong vs the AI. I've been sending tankers to these two bases to load oil for transfer back to Brisbane and I keep noticing this happen.

Tanker TF arrives at Sorong with home base as Sorong
Next turn I order it to "load oil"
Check TF next turn to view oil loading progress
Tanker shows 0 oil loaded
TF has no orders and is idle
If I give it another order to "load oil", the process repeats

If I give the TF a different home base, it turns and runs for home the turn after it arrives no matter if I give them an order to load oil or not.

Not all of the TF's do this; if I send tankers to Amboina they almost always load oil with no problems. The ones going to Sorong have about a 50/50 chance to not load oil though.

Is it the TF leader getting cold feet?

Also, I cannot change Kandari's HQ from ABDA to another HQ. All of the options are greyed out; PP's are not a problem (4000+ currently) and I have a SWPac garrison there right now. How do I change the HQ?

Could be one of two things ...

1. Firstly to check that the process is working. Set the home base and the destination to the current base, set the TF "do not unload", then try to load Oil, see if Oil has been loaded.

If this is not occurring still, then there is another issue iirc related to there being resources at the base. So move to 2.

2. load an AK with resources and send it to destination, unload, and then try to load Oil...

[edit] I think this is the glitch, but my memory isn't the best tonight ... I'd do a search on the same problem and see if this advice is correct.

Try one more thing 1st. Disband the tanker, then form another tanker task force. Set it to "do not unload" , with no destination. Then watch what happens. Disbanding the TF seems to be the WITP answer to "re-boot".

There is a bug in the game that you have to have resources in the port to load oil.

Thanks for the resource hint; Amboina has resources but I don't think Sorong does, or it's a very low amount.  I'll also try disbanding/recreating the TF.

What about the HQ changing issue?  I switched Amboina to SWPac but for some reason Kandari won't give me the option.  Do I need to move SWPac LCU's there first, or what?  The ABDA HQ surrendered some time ago on Java so I wanted to change HQ to an active one.

You only need 1 resource unit at the base in order to load Oil. The key (as mentioned) is to set the tanker to "Do Not Unload". My understanding of what happenes (assuming that the resource requirements are met) is that the tanker is loading oil, but then unloads the oil in the same turn. I usually set the base where I am loading oil as the home base and will not set the destination until the tanker is loaded. When the tanker is fully loaded (setting is "idle") I will turn off "Do Not Unload" and set a destination.

In order to change a base to a different HQ, you must have at least 1 LCU of the HQ you are changing to at the base.

I figured that an LCU of a certain HQ had to be present in order to change a base's HQ after I had done that at Sorong, so I sent one of my Dutch garrisons that I had moved to SWPac up to Kandari. I'll wait a turn or so and see if the SWPac option is now available.

I'm sure it has been said... I just disband the group and for a new one, and usually fixes it... annoying yes... but it works...

I turned on the 'do not unload' button and it appears that the tanker is now loading oil.  Thanks for the help.

If there isnt enough oil at the base to fully load the tanker, the tanker will load all but the last bit and then unload it (unless you hit do not unload).

I'm hoping that in WITP 2 there will be a one button fix to this. I call it the "shoot the CO to motivate the troops" button. Totally gamey , but oh so satisfing! [:D]
