This new stand alone release based on the legendary War in the Pacific from 2 by 3 Games adds significant improvements and changes to enhance game play, improve realism, and increase historical accuracy. With dozens of new features, new art, and engine improvements, War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition brings you the most realistic and immersive WWII Pacific Theater wargame ever!
Six BB's sunk at PH and the Japanese come back for a second day? "Very unrealistic", "losses too high at PH", "game engine is broken" . . . blah, blah, blah. I am sooooo glad that the AI has some variability built in. This is lookin' good.
It that's the way the game starts consistently - then the bloody thing IS broken. That kind of result ought to have the same probability an attack with NO BBs sunk, no second day, etc. Since, however, I seem to recall another such result in another of the AARs reported [following which the powers that be said that the result was not representative of the game] and I know, these are only two examples in a very small statistical set, but, results such as these two are the norm then the game, which could be inferred from both sets of results shown thus far, then this game should be called: AE: The Revenge of the JFBs.

. . . and I'm glad to see the AI took Canton, too. The AI pressing hard in the Central and South Pacific will add some drama.
I guess I missed all this, but I was surprised to see the Japanese doing a bombardment and deliberate attack on Wake. Are assaults no longer required on atolls?

Well, let's ask. Hey, Andy: Is the two-day party at PH a simple statistical probability, e.g., a 10% chance of KB staying over night, or is there something more involved in the AI making the determination? The Reverend is right that two days should be relatively rare, but enough to keep the U.S. player honest.
Just to beat this horse _again_, it's simply bad luck that two of the public AARs have happened to have large losses at Pearl. It's possible, but unlikely. For those who want yet another set of tests to confirm this, I ran these 30 attacks in the last build. This is the number of BBs sunk in each attack. Average was 2.9 per attack, Median was 3.
Andy in the air battles so has a bomber shot down a fighter? i am asking because in Witp the only bomber that seems to have had a chance was the ones with the fifty cal...?
Tiger!
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life

I saw the reply to the same thing the first time it seemed to create such a concerned cacaphony!!
Hmmm.. perhaps we should have a smiley with a bronx cheer - which was what I was cheerfully trying to give to the JFBs.... who erupt (tongue in cheek) whenever the AFBs cry...right or wrong... about "historicity:..."broken"...etc... in response to such data as Andy has to deal with...
However, I must say that, if on my first turn I faced those results, my actions would probably be...

Erik,
I am just curious about this. What AI setting did you use on these tests? Is there an appreciable difference in the results using different difficulty settings? Is there much of a difference in results between the AI settings and PBEM?

Just to be clear and I thought I HAD made this clear earlier
3 BB's sunk on day 1 and then Japanese lingered for a day 2 strike and trashed the rest of the Pacific Fleet (There is a chance that the AI will do that)
When we wrote the AI it was a what would a player do type of decision i.e. trying to make the game as good as possible for v AI players by trying to mimic what a PBEM opponent would do.
And occasionally a human player will linger for a day 2 strike.
Ah okay, If it's a chore then don't do it and keep on going Andy. We have other more detailed AAR's out there and in the end it's good to have one that goes further than the first week of the game.
So keep up the good work and thanks for the AAR [8D]
This is part of my testing I dont ever play a game just to play thre game anymore always looking for bugs or improvements in the AI
So I need to go as far and as fast as I can.
I think Mr Frag did a rapid fire AAR of the original when it came out think of this as more that kind of test !!!

My tests were on Normal difficulty. Also, these were all results of the December 7th attack. As Andy noted, his results here represented a two day strike as the AI chose to stay around a bit longer.
Well, there's a pretty simple solution to the PH thing. If you are playing against the Japanese AI and suffer a hideous fate at PH (6+ BBs lost).........."RESTART!" [8D]
Thanks for the AAR Andy![&o]

OK I have decided that I dont like the Japanese advance on new Guinea so much as I would like to concentrate 6th Aus Div in Burma or Java they are needed at home - my incompetance in Malaya is the root cause of this decision but cest la vie
Indomitable and Royal Sovereign are providing cover for this valuable 20,000 man convoy.
The first tranche of my air reinforcments have arrived at Aden several Blenheim and Hurrican Sqns
I moved 2 HAA and LAA Regt to cover Colombo harbour two or three of the Hurrican Sqns will also move to the island
4 Chinese Divisions are now in Burma concentrating at Mandalay
A further 2 200th and 2nd Reserve are still in China heading for Mandalay
When they are there 5th Chinese Army will have all 6 of its weak Divisisons on the line
7th Armoured Bde is unloading at Rangoon BUT the Japanese are massing in the south
The Japanese keep up the pursuit Singapore is still standing but Betties make an unwelcome appearance over Batavia PM and Rangoon.
I will need to pull surface forces back to safer waters and provide better air cover
