Longest Day and Wacht am Rhein

Post by slybelle »

I looked around but could not find a thread on this, but if I have missed it please kindly point me in the direction.

I'm considering purchasing either Longest Day or Wacht am Rhein. Can anybody tell me if all the fixes/additions that have been made in Longest Day will also be applied to Wacht am Rhein? If so, any time frame? I think I like the subject matter of Wacht am Rhein better but would like it to be on the same level as Longest Day. In addition, anybody with both games care to compare the two titles for a new person like myself?

My apologies, I don't have both games (yet) so I can't answer your question properly. But I love to throw in my 2 cents whenever there is a remote opportunity. [:)]

I can't tell you about WaR but I will say that CCTLD blows away CC5 from what I've played so far. With the British included, it really is like a fresh new game to me and not just a rerun of CC5. IMO CCTLD is a MUST HAVE for CC fans, even if you've played CC5. I haven't encountered any of the reported bugs yet but I have faith that Matrix will support CCTLD as religiously as they have supported other games with patches and updates. If it comes down to either/or then I can't say which to get but I highly recommend CCTLD at some point. Sorry I couldn't be of any real help but I just felt like responding so bad... [:)]

Hello,

They are both great games, you will waste plenty of your life playing either or both.

I pretty much only play H2H GC's, so to me I got my money out of WaR (100+hours, kinda raised my BP a little thou) and by time I get thru GC's in TLD I again will be able to say the same.

Personally I like TLD a little more (even thou we didnt get a paper manual...lol) because I thk WaR kinda screwed Germans in bottom 2 maps in GC making it very difficult to get any type of push toward bastogne in a 100% realistic setting (ie, line/line). Maybe some changes will be made to lower the Allies BGs from 15 to say 12 offering the Germans a chance to really achieve surprise on the opening day! Maybe adding a opening night turn will also help?

The FP's in TLD are much smaller (I love that!!), making it more of a challenge to keep your stuff alive for both sides this time!!!. Its also been a lot more relaxing to play so far with the larger maps. You actually can move around a little without being ambushed every 5 seconds. Beach maps are fantastic! I cant give enuff praise to all thous who put there blood, sweat and time into making this game! [&o]

Ive yet to run into any major LOS issues, prob mainly due to the fact lot of these maps were re-used and have been well tested over time, unlike some I battled in WaR. I never could get use to the elevation changes in WaR and the effect it had on LOS. Several times I had to enter maps (as germans) with no mortar support (most german armour BGs only have HT Mortars) because I had no were to hide them (sure would be nice to add a few leg mortar teams that could be hidden, hint...hint!).

If you got the money, I would say buy both...Oh and a lot of free time or go without sleep like I do. [:D]

Gz...

Thanks for the initial feedback. Quick question. I download the old series demo just to see how it was and one thing I noticed is the movement of the screen when you move the mouse to the edge of the screen. It goes very fast and very jerky. Hard to control the movement. Does this happen in these latest releases?

Andrew,

What about the initial question?

When are you planning to release the new patch for WAR?

A patch is planned for tLD first up.

If that is all good and tight then.... well I can't really say..

but I can let you see something that's in early beta stage that is on the test bed and it is by no means an answer to the above question.

Very cool! [8D]

One thing though. The shadows at the edge of the lighted circular areas of the map look sort of funny I think when they are superimposed upon other lighted areas. It looks kind of funny with a dark ring running through the middle of another spot that is supposed to be lit up.

I guess I just don’t get it,
Maybe if I imagine it’s a means to try and duplicate the early morning attacks from the Germans who used spot-lights and then reflected the light off the low lying clouds to illuminate the Battlefield maybe then I suppose it might be interesting for the first 8 maps.
I sure hope it isn’t the focal point for the next pact?
I for one am hoping for the maps to be re-codded, and that you’re able to have the Commanders attributes change during the GC.
I also hope that one of you kind soles would tell Mafi where the Hex Offsets are for the #’s in the details option on the Debrief screen for him to someday be able to add to the RTBTool.(It looks like Matrix isn’t going to correct that)
Allow more viewing of the strategic map.like what I have seen from screen shots of TLD.
Fix the way Soldiers and Vehicles get trapped when up against natural barriers.
Correct the issue posted that happens when one BG leaves a map and another enters.
Correct the fact that you can’t re-enforce right after entering a map because the game says you’re out of supply line reach.
