RE: Return to the PI!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Looks like the KB is covering an evacuation or resupply of Truk. I lost a ton of bombers that went after it. All have had their ranges shortened to stay within fighter cover. Air losses for the day were 110 Jap and 90 Allied. Not a good trade pojnts wise but I am hopefully killing off the last of the high exp pilots.

I considered sending a 100 plane fighter sweep (P-47C and Boomarang II) against Truk to kill pilots but due to the bad weather I decided against it. My only fear is a bombardment run against Emeru Island. I have 8 subs in the path as my only defense.

Gordon withdrew his fighters after I swept Clark Field so bombers are going against the base next turn.

Thumped Clark Field and Kuching destroying close to 100 AC on the ground.

KB is still hovering near Truk so it looks like it is a resupply/eveacuation mission and not an offensive mission. As such I have decided to send a 200 AC (72 P-47/64 Beaufighters/36 Kittyhawk III/ 16 Boomarang II) sweep against Truk. I will be happy to trade 1:1 if I kill off KB pilots. I need to weaken their quality before I confront the KB with my carriers. I considered sending bombers too but since they would only be hitting transports I did not think it was worth the sacrifice.

Samarinda was captured and the defenders pushed into the jungle. I had hoped to cut them off and destroy them but a slow starvation is just as good.

Very bloody day but it was expected. Air losses were 200 Allied to 150 Jap. I had hoped to destroy the KB's air wings but ended up fighting LBA at Truk since the KB slipped away during the night. Had I known this I would have sent the bombers in too. Overall I am still pleased with the results. Although trading at less than 2:1 at this stage of the war is not good, I know I am killing off a ton of experinced Jap pilots and thus lowering the combat effectiveness of the units. This will be crutial as I inch forward towards the HI. Since I am doing this with AC from what are essentailly my rear areas it is even better.

Air drop on Tawi Tawi dodn't take the base but it should fall next turn.

P-38s from Davao covered an attack against the PTs at Cayagan and slaughtered the low flying Zeros. I wish I could take credit for the ambush but this happened without orders. I LRCApped for 2 turns and nothing happened except for 4 Hellcats being lost. When I don't cover the base I get better results. Better to be lucky than good I guess. [8D]

4E bombers leveled Truk. Recons show the same number of units there as before so I guess the KB was covering a resupply rather than an evacuation mission.

Big raids planned for next turn

Gave Clark Field another good thumping. Air losses for the day were 151 Jap for only 50 Allied. Raids against Paramushiro did not fly due to weather.

I will need to pause for a few turns in the PI to rebuild my P-38s units before going after Manail. Hopefully Gordon is starting to run short of replacement AC too.

RE: Return to the PI!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Bombers went after at TF near Manilla rather than resting. They broke through and the escorts took out enough enemy fighter to cause Gordon to pull the CAP from manilla. It looks like he left the base unguared so I am launching an airstrike against Manilla AF this turn.

The battle in the north is oicking up. Bad weath and winter setting in has really slowed down air operations so I have sent BBs to do the job.

Tawi Tawi was cleared out. Now on to the other 2 nearby islands.

Air losses for the day were 10 Jap for 50 Allied

Battle of the Arctic

Post by RUPD3658 »

Paramushiro Jima got pounded and a Jap BB was torpedoed. Gordon is moving a lot of assets up here so it looks like this will be a main battle field for a while. Attu and Kiska are well fortified and I have a massive surface force in the area so it will be a hell of a battle if he goes there.
Bombing of PJ and Manilla led to 220 Jap AC losses for the day as opposed to only 30 for me.

Banjamarsin fell. Once it is repaired it will be the springboard to Java.

Kendari should fall next turn. It is not really strategically important but I don't like it in my rear area

RE: Battle of the Arctic

Post by RUPD3658 »

Kendari was captured and should be cleared out next turn.

Air raids on TFs near PJ were unsuccessful. I have ordered an all out strike against the AF and I have sent the Intrepid and her escorts to try to hit the ships before winter set in up north.

RE: Battle of the Arctic

Post by RUPD3658 »

Intrepid stopped to refuel it's escorts so the raid will be this turn if any ships are still near PJ. Hopefully I haven't been spotted.

Air raid on PJ inflicted heavy AC losses on the ground for no Allied losses.

Kendari was cleared out and netted just over 100 VP worth of LCU kills.

RE: Battle of the Arctic

Post by RUPD3658 »

CV raid was a bust. It damaged a few ships but didn't sink and plus it lost more AC than it shot down. Surface units have broken off and are headed back to PJ to see it they can do better.

I did not stick around for a second strike out of fear of the KB being unaccounted for

I got very lucky at Rangoon. I had just upgraded Wellingtons to Liberator VIs and forgot to reset ther ranges so they would not fly against Rangoon. They did so without escorts and luckily encountered no CAP. Again, lots of ships damaged but none sunk. Five are now in port but due to the flak at Rangoon I am not going after them

Ambushed in the Arctic

Post by RUPD3658 »

Surface raid on PJ was a success but the escape was a disaster. Last turn one of my subs was spotted by a Kate so I had a suspicion that the KB was in the area. I went ahead with the raiud anyway figuring that the KB would stay west of PJ to stay out of P-38 range. By dawn my ships would be 6 hexes away and out of the KB's range. Well the KB went 2 hexes East of PJ and ambushed my ships as they headed out. They haven't all sunk yet but it looks like I am going to lose 3 CAs and 19 DDs. [:(]

BBs have been spotted with the KB so I am fearful that Gordon may make a bombardment run against Kiska/Attu. I need to decide if I want to leave my BBs there for a surface action or if I want to pull back and just let the base get shelled.

RE: Ambushed in the Arctic

Post by RUPD3658 »

The KB retired so the panic in the AI is over for now. It looks like 5 of the DDs mauled by the KB will survive so total losses will only be 14 DDs and 3 CAs.

AC have moved into Banjamasin and ambushed the strikes against the units there. Total at the end of the day was 150 Jap AC lost for 35 Allied. Hopefully this did not tip my hand that ther will be a massive raid on Seorobaja next turn. 100 P-47s from Banjamasin and 150 P-38Gs from Balaikpapan will sweep the base and then the killer raid of 150 B-24/17s and 50 Libarator VIs escorted by P-38Js from Massacar will flatten the base. The base is still a dark red X so hopefully he does not see this coming.

Failed ambush

Post by RUPD3658 »

It rained at Massacr so the sweeps went in but the bombers did not. As a result what should have been a great day turned into a wash. Japan lost 189 AC to my 143. Had the bombers flown it would have been over 500 to maybe 125. At least I am killing pilots at a rapid pace.

RE: Failed ambush

Post by RUPD3658 »

Bombers from Wake (On winter break from the AI) leveled the AF at Marcus Island.
Stikes finally flew against a now destered Java but still did some damge. Had they flown last turn Gordon would have really been in trouble there.

I am trying to keep up a ground offensive but my ships/AC/LCus are all out of position. I hope to get a fulls csale offensive going by the end of the year.

RE: Failed ambush

Post by RUPD3658 »

Another frustrating turn as once again my escorts failed to escort anything. They are based at the same base as the bombers and even have the target hex set as their objective. They finally flew on Day 2 and escorted the medium bombers but let the heavies go it alone. As a result losses were even at 50 AC each. I hve set some of the fighters to sweep next turn and am hoping for better results.

Jolo will be attacked next turn

RE: Failed ambush

Post by RUPD3658 »

Another disappointing turn. I got ambushed by Jacks at Manilla that were flying LRCAP from Clark. When I hit their base they were not home but they shredded my strike against Manilla that was unescorted.

Jolo was recaptured and will now serve as a hub for the recapure of the small PI islands.
