The FW190 is a beautiful bird! 

One of my favorites. But I dont like the paint scheme they gave it. The U2 paint job OTOH is superb.
Is this private collection open to the public or do you have to someone earn permission? I would love to go take a look at these.

Open to the public....the only restriction is no commercial photography is allowed. $12 a person for adults. GF unit owns a commerical quality camera but as long we don't try to sell any of the full size photos we're good. Additionally, during the summer they have air shows which feature some of the planes in action. I'm planning on attending the show that features the I-16 in flight.

Is this the 190 D-13 that was in the old Air Museum in Arazona a few years back? the same one that had the N1K2 that is now I think in seatle?

Now I must make the pilgramiage to check out this place.

D-13. I'm not sure. There's a book on it's entire history in the bookshop. Given that it's the only D-13 left, it might have spent some time in Arizona undergoing restoration. The book was interesting. Apparantly when found in Germany there was confusion generated over the serial numbers which suggested (at the time) that it was a FW190A but that turned out to be incorrect. Book was big with hundreds of photos showing it in various stages of disrepair and restoration.

Place in history: The first Grumman Hellcats appeared in October, 1942 and were considered the best all-around fighters in the Pacific. The Hellcat was called the "Aluminum Tank" by its pilots because of its ability to absorb incredible punishment and still bring its pilot safely back to his ship. The Hellcat was designed for one primary purpose to outperform the Mitsubishi Zero-Sen, and both Japanese and American pilots agreed that it succeeded. Its enormous wing size gave it extra lift, accommodating the slow take-off and landing speeds on aircraft carriers. To compensate for their size, the Hellcat could "fold" its wings for hangar and deck storage. In total, At one point, Grumman was manufacturing one Hellcat per hour—an aircraft production record that has never been equaled.

This Aircraft: This aircraft was designed to be flown as an unmanned drone for anti-aircraft target practice, but was instead used for training. It has never undergone a thorough restoration, so is very close to its original condition. It is one of only a few surviving Hellcats, the Navy's fighting workhorse of the Pacific Theater battles.

GF unit was impressed. Her impression of WWII fighter planes was that they were all the size of a P-51 or around that. She was in awe of this plane....(and the P-47 of course) Have to admit, i was impressed myself. I knew it was big, but seeing it in person for the first time really can't convey the sense of size read from books or a few hundred 2D pictures. In fact, truth be told when i saw it from a distance, i thought it was a TBF.......then i saw the undercowling vent and i was like...oh, F6F.....geez!!!! BIG. [:D]

its not painted over. Due to the size reduction (75%!) to make it fit on the forum coupled with the flash, it flattened out the picture making the swastika blend in with the paint job
