MP Issue with tracer fire

I am trying to play multiplayer with a friend, and we managed to get it to work through Hamachi, which I have seen as a solution from various people to get MP to work. I say this because I don't know what the problem causing this issue may be. The issue is this. I have hosted all the games and have noticed no problems. However, my friend, who has played Close Combat for years, has noticed a noticeable drop in his ability to see tracers, about halved at least. Needless to say this is a pretty big handicap and the way it has gone we are thinking of switching to always see enemy units. Has anyone else ever had this problem?
