Version 2.3 or 3.1?

Post by sluny »

Hi

Please, can anyone tell me the difference between 2.3 and 3.1 version? Everyone is speaking about 3.0 or 3.1 version but there is only one download link on the PacWar home page, and it is 2.3. I would like to have the latest version of this great game, but i'm a bit confused with this.

Check the Matrix Games download section instead of the PAC home page:

I agree however there is a small inconsistency. Someone should update the PAC home page.

2.3 or 3.1

Sluny,
If you are currently playing a game then the upgrade will affect your current game -if you dont care and are willing to start over then this is a great upgrade! you must first upgrade to 3.0 then add 3.1 from there...

Follow Chmee's instructions and d/l 3.0 and 3.1 then install and enjoy!

Ifd you want to keep multiple copies about, just put each one in a different directory. The different versions whll not step on each other that way, and you can keep an old game going without corrupting it.

I have v 2.2 (2 versions), 2.3, 3.0 & now 3.1 as well as the original SSI v 1.1x22. Each one is in a different directory. If you place Rich Dionne's editor excel file in each directory, you can edit all of them (revise the "input" string in each file) without having to move files all over the place either.

You can delete the manual file (the .PDFs) from all but one directory to conserve some space, but in today's age of multi gigabyes drives, even that should not be a problem with this older less disk intensive game.

thank you all, but the main question still remains. what is the difference between 2.3 and 3.0+, when there is only 2.3 version available on pacwar home page?

Take a look into the v 3.1 update archive. Among other files you should find some MS Word documents with exactly that kind of info you are looking for.

China has been virtually eliminated as a theater.

Adjustments to India to make it less likely to be exploited with "stupid human tricks" by either side.

The game extends into 1946.

Numerous aircraft adjustments (not all of which I like - e.g., still no Meteors!).

Ships completed in 1946 (& some never completed) arrive (but the HMS Vanguard is still missing!).

See the doc files or examine the tables via the editors for complete details.

You can continute PBEM games from 3.0 in 3.1. It only overites the EXE and OBC files, but since changes from 3.0 to 3.1 are comparatively minimal you can continue with 3.0 without any trouble (however, you will not gain the benefits of changes in the OBC files, you WILL get the benefits of the EXE file changes though).
