Hong Kong has been under constant siege for 3 months. Ships just go there to die. I have a B-24 BG up at Changsha with a 72 plane P-40-N-5 unit for escort. Everytime these guys get rested up, I hit Hong Kong again. He is definitely NOT going there. Its either Manila or the HI. Here's hoping for Manila

If he is hurting for fuel, don't discount Brunei as a potential fuel stop.

Well, if he goes to Manilla, you still have a shot at him, and it's possible I suppose that he was hoping you WOULD follow him to somewhere where he had the LBA to get in a solid strike of his own. At this point, with the bad guys running from you, sinking them will just be a formality.
A day of wasted angst as teh IJN does exactly what I wanted them to and the skies cleared beautifully. The Japanese were right where I expected them and my CVTF moved the desired five hexes. Today we see the likley end of Japanese carrier power for the duration of the war. Image shows how the battle went. My air losses were a little higher than I wanted but I'll deal with it.
The AM strike knocked out all the IJN flight decks as there was no resistance in the PM. Before I detail teh CV battle I will cover what else happened this turn.
* G4M2 again strike from Sorang and 7 out of 8 Betty's are splased. B-24J out of Lautem tehn shut down Sorong's AB
* My TF heading for Ambonia did not move. I assume some of the little guys needed fuel.
* LBA out of Dili hits AMbonia's Port
* LBA out of Maumere hits Kendari's AB just to make sure nobody tries to roost there again.
* Deliberate attack at Makassar comes off at 3 to 1 and doess 1500 Casualties vice 400 losses for ALlies.
* Unmak Is AB goes to Level 5! This base went from 1 to 5 in like 10 days. That's what oodles of CB will do for you
The dawn breaks bright and clear today in the South CHina Sea. The battle is fought just north of Kendari. My CVTF reacted during both the AM and PM phases closing the PM distance to a mere 120 nm. The strikes results are on the screenie and cam in this in order:
1. US CVTF strike that shut down the IJN flight decks
2. LBA strike out of Kendari largely creamed
3. IJN CVTF strike which resulted in no leakers (only about 20 fighters escorted this strike)
4. AM LBA strike out of Padang puttin two 500 lb bombs into Akagi
5. Five separate PM strikes divided between the IJN CV's and a nearby convoy
6. PM LBA stike putting another 500 lb bomb into Akagi

Not a bad days work. I spent twenty minutes staring at the screen deciding whether to pursue or break for home. I lost 32 F6F this turn plus have a bunch more damaged. I decided to break for home. At some point some one told me that CVE do not have there CAP reduced in coastal hexes. Well that is incorrect becasue my CVE entered AMboina and only flew 67 FM-2. I will lose a CVE as Kamikaze's struck from Menado and one hit one. It seems Larry is using the old trick of sending in three or four groups at various altitudes to disrupt the CAP. WIll CAP stacking counter this. I am going to post in the War Room.
ANyhow my 2 ID and 3 Tabk BTN are up against two SNF and 4 engineering units at AMboina. I think I brought enough.
No more sinkings reported. I hope I will get Kaga yet. AKagi will at least be out of the war for some time.
My CVTF's were attacked by G4M2 out of Palambang. All destroyed.
Next few turns will be interesting as I wait for some sinking reports. Cursor intel of Manila say 108 ships. SUperbees are almost ready.

Final note: Victoria point went to Level 6 AB. That will give me room for the Liberator III that went to Ceylon to make room at Rangoon for the B-29

I usually try to get out as many BF and Aviation Rgt from the SRA at game start. Then, I work on removing fragments of all those stuck in Singapore with subs due to this issue.
I would do a quick double check throughout the West Coast to ensure that you don't have any there that you may have overlooked. Panama has a large non-static BF that I usually move forward.

Have about six lines of USN fleet boats in between the battle area and Manila with a toatal of 19 subs (was 20 but Cabrilla got roughed up by an ASW TF last turn). It is days like this that make this game so much fun. True I had a very good result but I should have considering I had 3 CV's and 7 CVL vs 3 CV and a CVE. also I know that the battle a month ago in the Celebes Sea decimated the IJN fleet air arm. Still, the decisions leading up to this battle. Do a mission speed or full speed move? Should I move here or there? WIll the Japanese be at this location or that? WHat about LBA? It really requires so much attention to detailand still I screwed up by not having the one Helldiver unit on Nav Attack. I bet I would be talking about at least two if not three dead IJN CV's now if they had flown. Still, even if Akagi and Kaga survive, you would have to call them mission kills as it is going to be a long time before I see them again.

My concerns about the FM-2 proved well founded. The Japanese came in force with a blend of Frances, Betty, Kates, and Vals on conventional attack plus Sallys and Lilys on Kamikaze attacks. Fortunately I guess, they concentrated on the SCTF. P-38's are moved to Lautem to LRCAP Amboina. Hopefully this will help. In addition Weda, Moratai, and Menado are are being hit by 4E's next turn. I also am transfering in 96 more B-24J from Tarawa to augment my striking force in the region. Deliberate attack ordered at AMboina with the 24 ID standing down as they are still unloading. MSW did not sweep at Amboina again and the SCTF did not bombard.
The CAP intercepts were very frustrating seeing 18 FM-2 intercept a raid of unescorted Salys with like 2 or 3 bombers and seeing leakers. Then a large group of 50+ attack aircraft escorted by fighters gets intercepted by 9. Ah, the fickle combat engine. Image shows teh carnage. Had to scutlel one LST. If I can take this base quickly, I may be able to save the severely damaged ships.

The Kamikazes come again today but are met by P-38J this time. Still had quite a few leakers but they all concentrated on CVE Corregidor which sinks but she acted as a shiled for everybody else. As it was unlikely this ship was going to be saved, I think this was a blessing in disguise. The counter air operations were not fruitful in terms of AC loss but accomplished their goals. The AB in the Moluccas are now almost empty. Two raid were launched at US CVTF which were at Bandjermasin refueling. Even with reduced CAP, they were complete wipes. Air losses today were 269 to 52 today with 19 of my losses coming when Corregidor sunk. MOst importantly, the Japanese lost about 150 first line fighteres.
The Deliberate Attack at AMboina cam off at 2 to 1 and reduced forts to 8. The 24 ID still has 2 105 mm Howitzers yet to unload. Once disruption falls in this unit, I think the base will fall quickly. Once Amboina falls, I will do a quick grab of Namlea, Babo, and Sorong as these are all empty or poorly garrisoned.
Future plans are shaping up nicely as I have two ID returning from Bandjermasin and two more ID in bound to Darwin. AMerical is at Darwin now. In addition two ID from the Solomons are heading to Townsville for R&R. Up in the HI, I have four Marine Div plus an additional two ID. These units are tabbed for Marcus and then a little surpise for Larry - Iwo Jima.

The attacks continue on the ships off Amboina but the pace slackens. Attached image is of the largest attack of the day and only one AK was hit by a Kamikaze. AIr losses were at 60 to 22. The AB thee attacks are being flown from are starting to rack up damage so hopefully Larry will call it quits. The engineers arrive next trun so once the base falls I should immediately be able to base fighters there. This base is very nice in that even my short legged P-47C can hit most of the next targets and LRCAP furture invasions. Of course in 22 days I get the -D version with a little longer legs.
Liberator III flew into Victoria Point today and will commence offensive operations next turn.
Still no sunk reports on Kaga or Akagi. I think Kaga is a goner. Akagi has got to be hurting too. Superbees are waiting but I want to hold off in case I spot one of these two ships moving into Manila

The meat grinder off Amboina continues. Only two ships hit today and the Japanese air losses continue to rack up. A deliberat attack came off at 2 to 1 and reduced forts one more level. Japanese AV has fallen to about 250. AS the 37th ID disruption had climbed to 34, I went back to bombardment. I have begun loading an Aussie BGD for Nalea which appears to only be held by a small BF.
Over at Makassar, my troops continue to pound aways at the Japanese troops trapped against the sea. I really think I have hit a game bug here. The Japanese troops are actually stronger now than when they controled the base. Also the icon is bright red meaning the have plenty of supplies. I have never had units retreat from a base and have that much supply. I don't think they are being supplied by air as there are no bases within range that are loaded up with auxillaries. Just seems odd.
Another 100 B-24 are added to teh counter air ops in the Moluccas with another 48 plane unit at Toiwnsville with one damage plane. I admire L:arry's williness to stand and fight but if those three bases get much higher in damage, he may risk losing a lot of airframes on the ground
