65 Years Ago: D-Day !

Post by Tzar007 »

Guys, I posted this in the General Discussion forum, but I think this especially belongs here...

At the moment I am writing this, exactly 65 years ago the American 82nd and 101st airborne divisions were jumping over the Cotentin peninsula while the British 6th Airborne, accompanied also with some Canadian paratroopers, was dropping east of the Orne river. Meanwhile, 5,000 ships packed with thousands and thousands of Allied soldiers were about to reach the beaches now universally known as Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.

As you take some time today for playing Close Combat: The Longest Day (which I have been playing since 3 weeks and loving very minute of it), take a few minutes to remember those who fought on this day, and be happy that you only have to fight on an electronic battlefield rather than a real one.

Long Live the memories of these historical events.

Definately a "hunker in your bunker" weekend to play TLD and watch old war movies.

There is a US names file somewhere out there that uses a first initial along with the name and an " * " that denotes that that name is of a survivor of of D-Day to D +4. It puts a historic element into the battle groups and, depending on your playing style can, influence your tactics to keep those real name sprites alive through your op or campaign.

Does anyone have a link to that USName.txt file?
C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas la guerre.

Panzerlehr62 and I plan on having a couple battles tomorrow in honor of the occasion. I'll update our AAR afterwards to let everyone know how it works out. [8D]

Drill, do you mean the USName.txt file in CC5 Bloody Omaha mod.
I've attached the file with this post.
