Quick skirmisher question

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

Quick skirmisher question

Post by moose1999 »

Is it correct that a unit with skirmishers deployed will benefit from ANY terrain type other than clear, except chateauxs?
Even swamps and mud? Villages?

Are they're any instances where there's a trade-off in positive/negative effects - i.e. one terrain type that gives better assault but also results in higher casualties taken...?

I don't believe that terrain types that normally have penalties (like swamps) have any additional terrain benefit for skirmishers.

You get benefits skirmishing out of urban hexes, orchards, tall grass and forests I think.

Edit: I have seen skirmishing bonus out of fortifications as well.

You can view skirmishing bonuses in your combat reports. Looking at combat reports really helps you develop an "eye" for a situation and which way the balance of power is tilted in various situations by terrain, upgrades, formation, quality, etc.

Thanks!
I just got a little confused as the manual states that skirmishers get bonuses from rough terrain and in another place categorizes all other terrain types than 'plain' as 'rough' terrain.

By the way, the combat reports are a very nice tool - and much better executed than in FOF.
It's a big plus that you can see all reports up until now in a given battle and that you don't have to enable combat reports in the options beforehand to see them.
