Finances ...

Post by Jabez54 »

[&o] Thank you, Shaun!!! ...Imagine, I just came back from a little trip and got to see this over the weekend - Wowee - so I quickly (like a little kid with new baseball cards) downloaded the 1.73 and the game went very smoothly for me on my PC - so I created my starting point "1900" -

1.) I noticed immediately with finance on as is - what do good ball players make in that time period (177,000$!!) what setup a decent curve from 1900 onward as far as tweaking goes - I thought the Babe was the first one to make more than the president ....

2.) Whenever the draft ended, I noticed there are still some old ball players that don't have any pics - is there a way beside manually, instead for just fictional players add generic pics for those that doesn't have original pics? ...

3.) will search if any more crops up as I test the "game" add-ons ... many thanks Shaun!!! ...

Jabez, on point 2, I suspect that these are in 2008 dollars, not early-1900s dollars. FYI, I set up a historical 2005 season, and the top salaries were $23 million/year. The major-league minimum is set at $100,000, with fictional scrubs making less. So, an early 20th century salary of $177,000 2008 dollars doesn't seem unreasonable.

Now, I've noticed that the Lahman database does include salaries for SOME, not all, modern-era players. PS doesn't import these values, as they are incomplete.

That being said, I believe the 1.73 financial model is much more realistic than previous versions.

I spent all day with era-specific model tweaks and things look really good.

The only downside (to retain stability) is in the real early years (1900's you'll see scrubs with super low salaries). I had to do it this way (scaling everything by a multiplier) so I would not have to go back to square one with re-balancing.

I'll post a screen shot of my 1927 salaries in a second...

These look good, and provide a good basis for an alternative history. I always wanted to incorporate finances into the '30s - '50s, and now it looks feasible. [;)]

One more thing: small-market teams need to have their overall financial base reduced. This is the one thing that prevents modern-era sims from being based on real-life business conditions, such as that faced by Pittsburgh.

For the old days, it only reminds us of why players-for-cash deals were common, as many teams were financially strapped.

Shaun, Many thanks for giving us with improvements of this tremendous game and the willingness, along with your personal time to achieve this ... I can't wait to see the "final" 1.74 ... Do you think KG's request is too much? - It would create more authentication of the era of past-time ... Again many thanks!!!

PS... The game has been doing well on my pc
