What delay settings do you use and why?

Post by Major Destruction »

I am curious to know what settings are preferred or used by players for the Message Delay and Live Delay?
They struggled with a ferocity that was to be expected of brave men fighting with forlorn hope against an enemy who had the advantage of position......knowing that courage was the one thing that would save them.

70/70 works best for me on a faster machine. Especially now that it seemd to help alot in PBEM Artillery viewing.

I must be nuts, but I can't read anything at 50/50 or 70/70, if I have time, playing PBEM or something, I use 200/150.

Go slow me :)

I use 100/100 and sometimes I still miss messages. If I set them much larger I feel like I've gone to real time and any shorter and I'm afraid to blink.

Larger is shorter?

O_O

Are you sure? I almost always still miss bits of messages, like for tank firing, all I usually get to look at is the AP v Armour any more, maybe I should lower my settings? I'm trying to get a longer time to look at the numbers and such.

Sorry ,grammar Fax Paux. I meant that by setting the message length shorter to speed up game play makes me loose too much of the message content. One second (100) is about as short of a length as I can stand, I'd like to see the messages more but the game play makes for long turns if I jack it up. I really need at least 200 but I'm too impatient. My eyes are 48 yrs old and have been stuck behind glasses for 42. Price you pay for experience I guess.

Wow, I feel like I've read that post before :) (Heh, Deja-Vu)

Ok, yes, I get it now, and I quasi-agree. 150 is about right for me, as otherwise I can read it all, but get frustrated, maybe if there were a way to click and make short messages like the Special OpFire one's that are easily read disapear without waiting a full two seconds, while keeping the data up there for tank vs tank shots, and other things of that nature.

Do you have the preference checked so that the messages always appear in the same spot? I forget which one it is. That helped a lot. You just train yourself to L-click, fire and look real fast at that one spot.

I don't know how to change the message length on some of the messages w/o changing them all. This sounds like a question for ...Gmenfan man. Can you help?

The settings that I use are Live Delay 10 and Message Delay 90. My machine is a 850MHz. I don't know what effect a faster processor has on the delay times.

The low live delay makes the message appear on the screen more quickly.
The Message delay is the time that the message remains visible on the screen.

I find that longer message delays will permit me to take my time to read the message but it also slows down gameplay. Certainly, on my machine, settings of 150/150 would make an airstrike take forever to play out.

If there is a long preliminary bombardment at the beginning of a scenario, I set both delays to 10. The effect is quite good. To see what I mean, play the first turn of the scenario "A Job for the Infantry" with these settings. ;)

Don't forget that F5 will show you the message list in review and the Replay feature will permit you to view all actions of the turn to date.
