AE in a small laptop?

Post by TulliusDetritus »

Hello, I will be starting a 1/3 sabbatical year on september. I will be visiting the Far East for almost 4 months: China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Russian Far East and North Korea, if they let me in [:D] BUT I don't think I can be without my favourite game (AE that is). So I plan to buy a second hand laptop (ONLY because of AE, that's addiction) and thus play the game in hostels at night [:D]

But the laptop must be rather small (the weight can be a problem). Will AE still work? What should be the minimum monitor size (if there is any, which I don't know)?

Thanks in advance

i think it will have to be able to support the same graphics as regular WITP... i recently got an ACER netbook, and WITP will NOT work on it as it can not set the correct graphics dimensions to start the game.

AE runs a lot slower than WITP (in my limited experience) so i'd recommend at least 1 gig RAM - more if you can get it.

The WiTP interface runs at a fixed 1024 x 768, so you'll need at least that (which shouldn't be a problem).

First of all, thank you both for your help. So this means some small laptops will not be able to support a 1024 x 768 resolution then. I will buy it accordingly (one which supports that resolution).

Yes, I know I will need 1 Giga RAM minimum.

Thank you again [:)]

Hi,

I have an Asus EeePC 1000H with Windows XP. WitP runs fine but you can't see the complete WitP window without scrolling the screen.
Battery time is 5-6 hours when WLAN and Bluetooth are turned off. Probably shorter than that for WitP since it use to run 100% processor capacity all the time.
1 Gig RAM and 160GB harddisk.

Regards

Well well well... I bought the laptop the other day and I have just installed WitP. It works [:)] I followed your advice [&o] minimum 1024 x 768 resolution and 1 Giga Ram. Now I only need AE...

BPRE, the laptop has the bluetooth thing activated. I guess I will turn it off (battery time around 2 hours and 50 minutes; I don't think I will get 5 or 6 hours, according to the guy who sold it, who is a quite honest / professional guy, but maybe 3 hours and a half). Thank you [8D]
