Supply Caisons

Post by aprezto »

Hi folks;

I am a little confused as to what controls the number of supply caisons you get for a tactical land battle.
I have had instances with many, this appears to be dependent on the size of the army, and I have had instances of none
I had come to the conclusion this was because I was attacking into a territory that wasn't mine (well in fact it was but had been overwhelmed by the english).
However, I then had a combat on my own land, where I was attacked, again I had no depot, and again I did not get any supply caisons. This one was more surprising - I was losing men due to overwhelming the forage level because the size of my army happened to coincide with the failed movement of some militia out of the battle provence, but I thought I would get supply caisons?
Further to this, my general won a battle 'benefit' of +2 supply caisons, which I took. I still did not have any on the map.

I've looked at the rules again. Rule 12.2.4 does state that you get more caisons by being close to a depot, but not that you get none if you are not (only that the number is reduced). I take it there is a chance that this will be zero? Any more precise answers to these vexing supply questions?
