Peace Treaties

Post by 06 Maestro »

I have run into some problems on getting a treaty from nations that have surrendered. As soon as I add anything to the treaty it says they will likely reject this or will not consider this at all.

Two specific cases involved Russia and Turkey surrendering to France. Russia eventually accepted some terms after about 4 turns, but Turkey never did-for 2 or three years.

Is there a problem here, or am I just doing something wrong. I know about the treaty point value which is displayed- and stayed well within those values.

This is the first time I have run into this situation. I have been able to make other surrender treaties w/o problem-but, perhaps not between those three powers initiated by France.

One of the clauses stipulates that acceptance of the other clauses is required as terms of surrender and then the defeated power has no choice but to accept.

Does that surrender clause ever have to be submitted first as a separate treaty?

What was happening is that as soon as I added any clause to the treaty the advice would change to a negative on the acceptance-which was accurate.

No. When you add that clause the number of surrender points obtained in the war will be displayed and then you can add clauses in the same treaty setting out what provisions the defeated power has to abide by and as long as it comes in under that limit the defeated power is forced to accept.

I think you need to provide some screenshots and saved games if you have them this is starting to sound like a weird one.

I suspect I was not properly selecting the nation for the treaty-just responding to the promt. It worked several times this evening without problems-If it happens again, I'll post a screen shot.-Thanks

Yes, it sounds like you are going with a normal treaty and not the surrender one

think it is at the bottom of the list, click on that, and the box will come up asking who is to surrender (basicly, it will only have one Nation) click on that, and you will have a total surrender points to use up, in asking for terms, which basicly, they have no choice but to give in to

different things cost different amounts, you can have them make payments to you, sink ships, tear down walls, lower readyness, fire generals, cede provinces (that you have a border with)

(to really screw with some one, force them to change there fuedal levels, that can be plain nasty)

Well, there are two surrender options on the list-I did get the nations to choose from when I selected the bottom one (IIRC). So, it was my mistake.

One thing that can be worse than war is defeat-I try to remember that.[;)]

This might be true for human player but I doubt such tactics will succeed against AI. AI handles its merchant ships so bad that it wont be hurt much more. And AI is used to keep its national morale pretty high and I would not be surprised if it got some bonus morale as it gets bonus money. Better to spend your points on something which improve your own position like striping your AI opponent of colonies.
