I hate bookstores

The Starship Troopers movie, only got the name really late during it's production. It was going to be a generic (if you can call a bug war generic) action movie, until someone realised they could option the license for the book, and they worked in all the references to it. As it stands it's either a really good satire on some of Heinleins ideals or a really bad interpretation of the book. Regardless, I don't think anyone should ever watch the movie and compare it in any way to the book. They are so different the movie is practically a parody (I'd slot it into "loving homage" than parody/satire) rather than an interpretation.

The 2 other movies in the series kinda suck. 2nd one is by far the worst.

Come on Jeffrey, it wasn't that bad, at least not as bad as Starship Troopers. Now, that was painful to watch. ( especially having the original book) The movie kinda let the whole societal aspect slip out the backdoor, doncha think?
Anyway, maybe the younguns that saw it might be tempted to pick up the novel and see what the story was really all about. ( more than just" Bugs, Mr Rico, zillions of them...")

I kind of enjoyed the first SST movie, the second one wasn't really an SST movie but more of a series projection with an watery SST theme. DIdn't see the 3rd SST one. I didn't even know their was one until a friend mentioned it to me.

I'll have to take your word for the I Robot movie, because I refuse to see it. Another Will Smith shoot em up ? I don't think so.

We already know we are a small, niche market when it comes to gaming. It strikes me as more than a little odd to think that might be different in the book world.

The books book stores show are the ones they think people will be most interested in. They are a business - they have to sell their stock. On the other hand, unlike gaming stores...you ask them to get you a book and they are more than willing.

Hardcore strategic games being not present at stores has nothing to do with discrimination by stores and everything to do with strategic game publishers moving to online-only sales model.

Strategic games are present in media stores and mega-stores in Poland when they actually get published here. Hell, I bought CM3 at a newsagent.

Also, I don't quite understand why the books about SS would be the ones that people would be most interested in.

I have to say, you have completely lost me with this argument. Of course, I AM looking at it from a North American perspective where book stores sell...books.

I wasn't talking about bookstores. I was replying to JudgeDredd's suggestion that it's unreasonable to expect hardcore strategy games in stores that sell ordinary games because stores want to sell stuff.

I enjoyed all of teh SST movies. The last movie even had som stuff like the powersuits from the movies.

True. I prefer not wait a month for a book, though.

Also, when I order a book in a local media-store, I don't have to pay for postal, which in some cases is half of price of a book.

I used to be able to jaunt a mile to a corner bookstore. Which has closed up two years ago. However, my
point is that they had a minimum amount of books in any category. Yet, if you provided with them the
name of the book, Publisher and ISBN, they'd order it (provided the book was still in circulation, of course).
And I would get the book in an easy two week time frame. Now, I'm using Amazon.com and even Borders.com
too. Just wanted to toss in my view on this. [;)]
