Best Way to Set Up Existing Draft League?
Hi,
I read through the manual and am a bit confused. I think there are some new features in the beta that aren't in the manual yet. Here's what I'm trying to do:
- Real players on fictional franchises (e.g., Smoltz on the Connecticut Chill)
- Rosters are already established, just want to assign players to teams, preferably one team's entire roster at a time
- I control all player movement, and have ability to manually play games, though most autoplayed
- I want to set default "vs LHP" and "vs RHP" lineups for each team, let random injuries occur to affect player usage
- Rosters roll forward each season to keep players on correct teams, use actual historical stats
- I want to see the current year rosters with actual MLB stats so I can make trades and set lineups before each season
I started setting this league up and then was a bit confused on some of the choices I should make. Looks like a great game if I can figure it out. I used to run this league in Strat-o-Matic from 1991-2004. I started to set it up in OOTP this year but found you cannot view the actual player stats when managing a team's roster (you can only view the stats from one season earlier, but not the stats the current players are based on - e.g., if using the 2004 season, you can view 2003 stats but not 2004 stats. I want to see 2004 stats to know usage limits and set lineups).
Thanks for any and all help!
Chris

Is there any way to see a team's roster with the actual MLB stats?

Are you trying to put all members of a given real world team onto a fake team, so that the roster stays the same from the real world to your fictional universe?

No, I'm putting players on various different teams. I found I could do it by 'signing players' when viewing a team, so I think I've got that part figured out. Now I want to be able to see a team's roster with actual MLB stats (instead of just being able to see one player at a time). If I can't see the entire roster with stats, it will be impossible to determine if I have enough games at each position. I also would rather make lineup/rotation decisions based on those stats versus game-assigned player ratings.

Okey-dokey. I have no idea what you're talking about.

When you say MLB stats are you talking about their real world stats or their Puresim stats? And are you talking about just for the current season? On Front Office there is a Team Reports section which shows you your current stands for your major league roster.

I just don't know how to make lineup/usage decisions without their real-world stats. Player ratings are ok (though I prefer real stats), but even with player ratings, how can I tell if a player played in 20 or 162 games in the prior season? I don't want a roster of a bunch of guys who played 20 games last season.

Another way that you can look at it is that it doesn't really matter. Sure, you are using real players from a certain point in time, but when you assign them all over the place to imaginary teams does it really matter what their real world stats were? It's not like you are trying to duplicate an actual season. You're not even putting them with their real teammates which has a small part to play in a given player's stats. Why not just look at them for the potential players they are in your world? Or even let your manager assign the starting lineups and see how that works out for a few weeks. You'll see how your players perform based on your scouts' ratings of them, and then you may be in a better position to adjust lineups based on what's going on. But the bottom line is to just have fun with it.

Thanks, I appreciate your help and suggestions. Let's say I convert to the world of ratings instead of stats. How do I know my team isn't comprised of players who all played only 20 games last season?ORIGINAL: Wrathchild

Remember, I want to be in control of rosters. That IS the fun part for me. I like looking at the stats and making trades each season based on a team's outlook and priorities. One year when A-Rod was just getting started, I traded him from Team A to Team B for some pitcher. It's fun to look back and see what a colossal bad trade that was for Team A.

... Welcome aboard ... Isn't it great to be in this forum where you can and will receive inputs/suggestions that will help you enjoy the game ... All I can tell you is to experiment as much as you can in many ways the game can offer to you and from the mates' suggestions ... However, I must caution you that the PS07 will give you many surprises and twists and not getting the results that you may hoped for or for that matter, exceed your wild expectations ... the stats you hope for will be shown on how you be using the players over seasons accumulation in managerial role ... there have been players that had played 20 games or less per season, then suddenly become superstars for one or more seasons ... you will be able to see the seasons stats goes by as you get up there in seasons in the Almanac section as well as the add-in modules ... If these don't answer your questions, please don't stop but explore the vast and the depth of the game that seems endless ...

Well, you don't. You could just sim out one full year letting the computer managers do things for a season. Then you would have a year's worth of stats to work with.

Thanks Tomas. It doesn't appear Puresim is designed to accomplish what I'm looking for with my ongoing solo draft league, but it does look like a fun game, and I'm sure I can come up with some other projects for it.ORIGINAL: Jabez54

RE: Best Way to Set Up Existing Draft League?
Thanks, wrathchild. My background is traditional board baseball games (APBA, Strat, Replay) that are based on real stats, and that remains my primary interest. I had a blast for 14 years watching my fictional franchises develop their own history, while I pulled the strings with real players rated based on real stats. That's just my preference. I think I will dream up some projects to do with OOTP or Puresim. And I understand from another forum that I can run Puresim based on real stats. However, without being able to manage based on real stats, Puresim will not be the solution for the league I want to run. To each his own! I do like the interface of the game and I'm sure I will get some enjoyment out of it with other projects.ORIGINAL: Wrathchild
