Merak was captured and should be cleared out soon. I know Gordon pulled out some troops by air beacuse on turn 2 a bunch of transports were shot down flying to the newly captured base.

Petropavovlsk was nuked again. Since the KB's location is unknown this will be the last raid for a while.

RE: Allies invade Java!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Not a good turn for the Allies. I hit a wall at Madioen that finally stopped my advance in Java. I will be able to clear it but it will take about a week to get the rest of the force in place.

I screwed up at Tacloban and lost bunch of APs and MSWs. They had been set to return to Tacloban to pick up the troops there and bring them back to Cayagan. I thought I had chnaged this and had them going straight to Cayagan so I cancelled their LRCAP and as a result they were sitting ducks.

1943 The year in review

Post by RUPD3658 »

While I am waiting for the next turn to come back I have some time to review my accomplishments for 1943.

For the year I outscored Gordon by about 1,000 VP (81,830 to 17,891)

Bases captured:

Adak/Kiska
Rabaul
The remainder of the Solomans
Kwaj/Eniwetok/Ponape
Port Moresby
Trimcomalee
Sorong/Ambonia
All of Sulawesi
Souhern 1/2 of Borno
Northern 1/2 of Java
All of Mindenao

Bases lost: All of Russia along with all the LCUs and AC[:(]

Overall effect:

I have captured a large amount of Gordon's oil and cut the sea lanes between the HI and the few oil centers he does have left. Hopefully this will start to effect production soon. Once Okha is cut off he should realy start to suffer.

The war in the air:

I destroyed nearly 3,000 more AC than I lost in the year (10,603 to 7,703) and many of their valuable pilots went down with them. I now have large #s of P-38s and P-47 and will get P-51s soon. As a result I can now go toe to toe with the best of the Jap fighters.

The war at sea:

I actually lost more warships than I sunk due to a few bad surface engagements and one mauling by the KB but I probably got more ships as replacements than I lost. Gordon can not say the same. I now have 2 powerful CV groups and will be getting the respawned ones back soon to formn the core of a 3rd CV group.

My subs have become much more effective since the doctrine expired and have started to take a toll on shipping. Sadley, due to experienced Jap search planes I have been losing a sub for evry 1.5 ships they sink.

The war as a whole:

I have picked most of the low hanging fruit an will have to go against very well defended bases soon. Thanks to the 1943 advance I will be able to do much of this under the umbrella of LBA/

Goals for 1944:

Q1: Clear Java/Take southern Sumatra/Clear Borneo
Q2: Take Petropavlovsk/Invade the PI/ sink the KB
Q3: Clear the PI/Invade Formosa/Invade Shakhalin Island
Q4: Invade mainland Japan.

Madioen was captured and 10K Jap troops are now cut off at Kragan.

In the PI Cebu and Guiuan were cleared out. Now comes the build up for an attack against the PI.

Fortuently I remembered to porovide LRCAP for my units at Cebu and as a result they shredded 2 Jap air strikes against the landing forces.

RUPD3658,

In post #548, you expressed the view that you had severely dented your opponent's oil supplies, a situation which would worsen once you cut off Okha.

I wonder whether you might be a tad too optimistic.  Doesn't the captured Soviet oil centers mitigate the loss of Javanese and Borneo production.  Particularly as the Siberian fields can feed by rail the captured Soviet Heavy Industry.

Okha is the only Russain oil center in stock that I am aware of. There are a few in China (about 250) but they barely fuel the captured heavy industry in China.

The Home Island run an oil defeicit of about 6000 per day which means that all the oil from 1000 oil centers needs to come in every day. Right now there should only be 400 (2400 oil units) per day making it fom Okha.

Shock attack took Kragen.

Raids on Seorobaja destroyed a lot of supplies. They will attack again today.

Raids on manilla destroyed about 20 transports. Don't know if they were flying supplies out or troops in but they have been shut down.

RE: 1943 The year in review

Post by RUPD3658 »

And yet more softening up. I am going to try another attack next turn.

Cleared out Kragen so I can put another 700 AV into the assault.

I am currently building up all the bases in the PI that I have captured. The plan is for them to provide fighter cover for the landings in Luzon in about 2 months. Once these are ready the air war over Luzon will begin. By then I should have upgraded nearly all my sqaudrons to P-38Js and should have a reserve to replace the expected losses that will be suffered shutting down Appari.

The Battle of Java

Post by RUPD3658 »

Attack on Seorabaja failed but at least lowered the forts. I think the AV went up since I started bombing the base. I will be trying some new things next turn.

BBs nuked Petrpopavlosk again and their escorting CVEs shot down over 30 Betties that tried to interfere.

RE: The Battle of Java

Post by RUPD3658 »

Massive air raids hit Seorobaja, PJ, and Petropavlovsk.

Landed behind Seorobaja at Malang in an effort to cut off any retreat. No need to push the defenders into a mountain hex with new forts. Hope to take Malang next turn.

March throogh the jungle is complete so there should be an attack at Bruinie too.

New attack at Seorobabaj preceeded by BB bombardments is also planned for next turn.
