It wasn't until after I purchased the retail boxed version of Space Rangers 2 and installed it on my computer that I learned it had StarForce copy protection. What an unpleasant surprise! [:@]

I hate that stuff! I downloaded mine. I read that the download is StarForce free. I won't support any DRM unless I get tricked. [X(]

I wish they would release a sequel to Victoria. One of the best historical games I have played. But is seems like one of the Paradoxs least popular games.

i think they are - theres always talk about it on Wargamer

Side Note: SOTS and both expansions are on sale right now at GamersGate SOTS Package, the weekend special I believe for $7.99 US currency. That's a lot less than what I paid for the three.

Yep Great game, it's on sell at Stardock too. You have to click on the game itself though as it's not listed as on sale in their On Sale menu.

Yep, good to see someone else has found out what SOTS is really like.

With that said, I should also note that we have a pretty cool original Sci-Fi 4x game in the works that I have high hopes for.

Regards,

- Erik

Really? Tell us more please about this 4x game matrix has in the offing?

If you like SOTS then check out this new game called Ai War:
AI War
Excellent game! I found two obscure bugs and the developer fixed them within a few hours and emailed me the link to the patches. That's service! [&o]

Well, I can't say much yet, but if you're interested in helping us in the development process as a tester, check out this post:

I tried the demo, and it seemed rather fun but my monitor just hates whatever WS resolution it seems to be fixed at; it was just painful to look at. Much more like a 2D Sins of a Solar Empire than SotS, though.

And talking of SotS, there's a new expansion inbound this week folks, 'Argos Naval Yard'. Only a 'mini' one, but priced accordingly ($8.99/£6.99 at Gamersgate).

Write Chris at chrispark7@gmail.com and tell him. He will get right back to you with help for any issue. I have it running on two different PC's, one at 1600x1200 and my laptop at 1380x768 widescreen and both of them look perfect. It matches whatever resolution your set for.

I pre-ordered the 'Argos Naval Yard' this morning, now just have to wait until Wednesday... still waiting... [8|]

They had the SOTS Ultimate Collection pak onsale this last weekend. $7.99 for SOTS, and the first two expansions. I couldn't resist that deal. Downloaded it, looked at it and haven't looked at it since. I think I'm tired of learning new rules for games. It's like ugh another new game to learn how to play and with a crappy tutorial or none at all to teach me. I hate read only tutorials, now I want voice tutorials and them tell me how to do every little thing. [:D]

I can't even install the latest version, it seems to need an upgrade of the Microsoft installer. Except that that won't install, and throws up an error that M$ shows you how to correct with another download - that Vista tells me I don't need!

Given up. Life is too short.

That would indeed be incredibly cool. I've always wanted to see an 'epic' space wargame with rather more 'military' depth and 'realism' than your average, or indeed any, 4X. Even if it meant shedding a couple of the Xs.

make sure ya keep them Paradox games isolated from your good games as them bugs might contaminate every game on the same shelf, cupboard, or your whole HOUSE!

There are times when I think that that founder of MS must have been related to the late Civil War General named Jackson who's motto was "never let the left hand know what the right hand is doing" LOL.
I have had so many catch 22 situations with MS products over the years it would be funny if not for the problems it caused.
We should all be cheered by the release of windows 7 the OS that WILL finally get things right....Haven't I heard that before?

Just wondering what it is your ....uh....smoking,taking, injecting.....Like most Paradox games the HOI series just keeps getting bigger, badder....more little areas....more of there stupid little pop up's...and what they want you to think is a real time game is just a real time mess....and the bugs..lots.....and lots....and lots of them. It is not possible for the series to get better just bigger and more of a mess. A sort of sudo real time Risk game.

I will say that the one MOD for HOI 1 called the AI super Bundle made that game almost playable. How can you even think to mention HOI (any version) in the same post as either WitP or AE....

then I see you are a recruit so being an intelligent person will I hope learn better in the future.

We live in a wonderful world where no one forces you to buy it.

I'd rather deal with a thousand pop-ups than with WITP's god-awful interface. I don't think there was ever a game more ruined for me by opaque presentation of critical game info than WITP (well, that, and the minigame of Ship Chartering Manager).

Besides, are you seriously complaining about them including more stuff? I mean, isn't the whole point of, say, AE, to include more stuff? Including a bigger map?

Also, give me a break with the bugs. The only time I ever had a CTD with HoI2 was when I left it running overnight on superfast as some third world country in a hands-off game.

I do, however, appreciate that WiTP is a pretty cool game. I might even buy AE. But it's not some kind of a wargaming Holy Grail. To begin with, the scale inconsistency is just astounding - you've got half of the planet on the map and you're pushing battalions (yeah, yeah, there are divisions around - but also some ungodly horde of tiny units) around one by one? Simultaneously deciding on war strategy and where to ship 1/3 of an auxiliary shoe repair platoon? Deciding on which engines to produce (half of which don't do anything because no plane uses them???)? These are objective complaints about strange game design choices.

For the subjective part -

- Some people prefer their strategic wargames with diplomatic and political options that WITP lacks.
- Some people prefer land campaigns to naval ones.
- Some people just plain don't like the Pacific (not me, though), so clearly WITP isn't everything to everyone. Being War in the Pacific and all that.
- Some people like real-time and there are good arguments for it in a wargame - combining granularity and simultaneity. Another argument is that counting the hours is a lot more immersive than pressing "End Turn."
- The game just takes too damn long to play. I'm not retired, I don't have all the time in the world to replay the Second World War a day at a time.
