The old re-install trick. We have a winner. Still, you had to decipher the illness from the symptoms.
 
I should have known better but reinstalling as a way of fixing faults is less prevalent now with installers and I just didn't take that leap. Lucky it wasn't up to me!
 
Thanks for your efforts - I can now use a rig that works!
