weak trade AI ?

Post by bugs_raymond »

... a strong statement, but how many times in real life would Bing Devine have dealt Lou Brock in exchange for John Strohmayer ?

The AI doesn't do many trades on its own, but, it isn't a complete pushover in human-AI deals. My house rule is one-for-one, two-for-two etc. I've occasionally been able to sneak in a scrub in a two-for-two and get two decent players, but it's rare.

One thing the human GM SHOULD do is go down the AI team list and see if it's actively looking to fill roster needs. With 1.75, so far, I haven't been able to steal away Hall of Famers like Ted Williams or Bob Feller, but I WILL keep trying. [;)]

The big question for me will be the FA period, since I'm using financials in 1939. How will the AI handle it when guys like Williams or DiMaggio or Feller come up for grabs? Now, I DID select player affinity ON, so hopefully that will help.

From what I have seen in the computer AI in trades it doesn't look all that strong at all, except when the target is very high in POT. As I cited in my original post in this thread, I was able to deal 1969 Expos scrub John Strohmayer straight up for Lou Brock. There's no way anything like that should ever happen.
