Do the B-29 "need" a level 7, or will a level 6 do ?

Depends on if you "need" extended range or a full bombload.

The manual states that the B-29 requires a minimum size 7 base to operate at extended range, and if you’re bombing the Japanese home Islands you need extended range to hit as many cities as possible.
