RE: The Battle of Java-Won!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Finally took Soerabaja. I will need to rest my units a few days before mopping up. After that they will be used for a strike against Sumatra and some will go to the PI to prep for an invasion there.

In the north the die has been cast. Currently 4,000 AV worth of troops are headed to Petropavolvsk. Some will arrive on day 2 and the rest will land on day 1 of the following turn. I am sure that this will draw a response from Gordon. I anticipate that he will send the KB and his surface fleet from Tokyo to oppose the landings. With this in mind I have over 50 subs along the most direct route. Hopefully they can hit a few ships before they get to the fight. Once they arrive I have 1/2 of my carrier fleet (about 600 AC) and most all of my BBs to cover the landing. I am hoping that the snow shuts down or at least breaks up his strikes. This will be a bloody battle but if it succeeds it will be worth it.

RE: The Battle of Java-Won!

Post by RUPD3658 »

To quote Dr Evil, "Why am I surrounded by friggin' idiots!"[:@]

The whole northern offensive that has been planned for the last 6 months just fell apart. The plan was for the AGCs to arrive along with 1/2 the carriers and the fast APs on turn 2. They were supposed to be unloaded by the time the slower LSTs arrived on day 3.

What happened? The AGCs outran the CVs and one got sunk along with it's precious HQ. The fast APs somehow end up 1 hex behind the slow LSTs so they don't unload. Now that the element of suprize is blown I have noty option but to call off the landing and run for home. The BBs are going to nuke Petropavlovsk once more before running for home. Hopefully the line of subs can hit something since I have a feeling the whole Jap fleet is enroute to stop the now cancelled landing. No need for a slugfest when I get 20 CV/CVL/CVE in the next 6 months.

Took out a bunch of AC at Manilla and finially got the units in place along with good weather for a strike against the fortress of Aparri. Next turn will be bloody all around.

RE: The Battle of Java-Won!

Post by RUPD3658 »

The invasion fleet managed to make it home unscatehed. The BBs plasteded the base and a single LCI carried out a landing to make sure there was not game issue about landing in a Russian base. They also confirmed the AV of the defenders, which turned out to be much lower than expected. Now I have to decide if I try another landing.

I am unsure if the KB has come out to play but BBs have been spotted and engaged by my subs with pitaful results.

The good news for the day is the destruction of air fortress Apparri. The raids destroted 523 Jaop planes at the loss of only 118 Allied. The A2A was not as good as I had hoped for but I am still pleased with the raid. Now I can seriously think about a PI laning in the near future.

I see listed for British withdrawal only 1 CV with no DDs included.  Is that because you already have withdrawn this month the DDs or you simply don't have any left to be withdrawn?  Will you withdraw the CV or take the 2000 PP hit?

I already gave Uncle Winston back his DDs. Just like last month when he asked for one, I will not be giving him back a CV. I would gladly give him a CL or a CA but he keeps asking for a CV and I sort of need them right now. [;)]

Battle of the Arctic

Post by RUPD3658 »

This turn my bombers shut down OJ and hit a convoy hard. What does not show in the combat report is the 5 subs I lost to AC. There are serving as little more than tagrgets so most are being pulled back.

Bali was captured and cleared out so Lombok Island is next.

Seorabaja continues to hold out. This may slow my PI offensive by a few weeks.

Making another run at Petropavolvsk next turn.

RE: Battle of the Arctic

Post by RUPD3658 »

Once again the transports did not reech Petropavlovsk on time. After much agonizing I have committed them to a landing this turn. If the KB shows up it will be a bloodbath. I am hoping that my turning back last time has made Gordon think that it was a diversion to pull the KB away from the PI. I can only hope that he is stressing as much as I am.

RE: Battle of the Arctic CV battle next turn

Post by RUPD3658 »

I almost blundered into an ambush. The KB was spotted 5 hexes noerth west of Petropavlavsk. I lost 38 floatplanes spotting it. Luckily it's AC must have had their range set to 4 since there were no strikes.

I have off loaded all the combat troops so I am having the fleet withdraw. The BBs will bombard one more time and the CVs will cover them as they head for home.

If Gordon pursues me he will have to come within P-38 range so it will be bloody all around. I am hoping the blizzard covers my Sir Robin like move.

Petropavlovsk recaptured!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Shock attack took the base and my escape was successful.

Seorabaja was also cleared out so overall a very good turn for me.

RE: Petropavlovsk recaptured!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Landed at Jesselton in force. Can't figure out why my CV covering force just waved at the Jap DDs on their way home from raiding Jolo. They were 2 hexes away in clear weather but no strikes. Fortuently my LBA got a few of them before they got away.

It doesn't show in the combat report but the CVs shot down over 80 transports flying to Jesselton. Don't know if they were bringing supplies in or troops out.

Bombardment runs against Legaspi also sank a few DDs. These look like they have caused Gordon to redeploy the KB.

OJ and PJ now show heavy AC consentrations eventhough the bases are damaged. I will launch strikes against them as soon as I am sure the KB is no longer in the area. It still looks like a trap right now.

RE: Petropavlovsk recaptured!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Not a good day for the Allies. Two fast transport TFs ran into Jap bombardment TFs at Petropavlovsk and they got killed. I lost 3 CL, 3 DD, a sub, 3 AKs and a few LCIs for only 1 Jap DD and 2 damaged Jap BBs in return. I am hoping for better results this turn with a new plan. I am hoping that my move against the PI has drawn the KB away.

Jesselton was captured. Once it is built up the sea lans between the HI and the west will be severed.
