P-38 Escorts

Post by denisonh »

I had a scenario #16 going into December, and had P-38s at Buna escorting B-17s out of PM. (Overwrote it with my first PBEM game who used save2 slot:( ).

I set the P-38s to escort and set the target to Rabaul, then set the B-17s to Airfield Attack on Rabaul. It worked.

I think that putting the 5th AF HQ in PM helps big time.

Thanks Spooky, I was sure that was more than just a display bug (makes sense though). Tulgai took about 50 times longer than a normal airbase "level up" (and I had 50 000 supplies and 2 engineer teams at work), so I got a bit impatient. I've got my fighter strip now!

Drongo - you were right. I'd transferred a bunch of tattered SBD squadrons and by the next turn they'd replaced/reinforced up to twice their original size. I'd prefer Avengers or Devastators to SBD's though - torpedos do more damage (less often, and costs more dead pilots, but still worth it. Torpedo armed betty's can really ruin your transport TF).

Raverdave - 5th airforce HQ did the trick. Everything is proceeding as I have forseen it (cackle, evil laugh).

Playing #17 (Decison in South pacific) atm, and sort of enjoying the cat and mouse games I have to play avoiding the two enemy CV Tf's (even though it goes wrong now and then).

Squealing like a pig - probably - I growl a lot too when my LBA don't do as they should (they just cancelled their air missions due to bad weather . . . although the forecast was clear . . . ).

You do remember what happened to the big bad wolf that picked on pigs though don't you??!! :D

Dear RavingQueen,

You'll never get me squealing like a pig (unless you buy me a romantic dinner first accompanied by lots of alcohol).

Just because it says that the weather is clear, it does not mean that it is clear over THAT base.

Aussie Math

I forgot,

3 guys x 100 beers apiece equates to 300 beers (something more than 10 cases).

Nice calculations.

If you're ever over here, I'll shout you some beers (allow 24 hours per day for each drinking session when planning trip! Schedule Sundays for sleep, attending religious service and then BBQ).

No wucking furries.

In the US they tell me I drink too much, and in Australia they tell me I'm a lightweight.

What to do?

Unfortunately due to the tariffs on alcahol content, the major beer brewers in Oz have dropped full strength beer to something halfway between full strength and light (a shameful conspiracy which they were careful not to tell anyone about BEFORE they did it, and now after the fact they say "you should have complained before we changed"). So as a result we'll all be forced to drink more beer (costs more, imbibe a larger volume of liquid - have to go to the toilet more, collect more empties etc.) to make up for it. This will shake the very foundations of Australian society. Soon the only place you'll be able to get real beer will be Tasmania (working on the concept that they are roughly 30 years behind the mainland in everything else . . .)

Next they'll start serving beer with a straw and an umbrella in it.

Well there are two ways around this:-

1/ brew your own beer (but who has time after playing UV?).

2/ Mix "Stones Green Ginger Wine" in with your beer....it is a bit of an aquired taste:rolleyes: , but it makes for a wonderful tummy-warmer when you are out bush on a cold night...........ah, my mis-spent youth!
