Campaign coming up with 1/3 deployment

Post by GaryChildress »

Is anyone else having this problem in multiplayer only? When Panzerlehr62 and I try to open our save game in single player against the AI deployments are fine. But when we go into multiplayer and open up the same save game the map is ALWAYS divided into 1/3s. Below is an example of what we had this evening. Not sure what is going on. Is anyone else having this problem in multiplayer only?

Hi Andrew. Also it is only on the first H2H game we play. The next game is fine but if we close out and start again the next day our first game will be 1/3. [:(]

Andrew. Would you like to have a look at my saved game? Maybe you can try it H2H and see what happens?

This is being looked into.  It's a default condition built into the original CC5 exe (and all subsequent ones) where when opposing BG's are entering on the same VL or VL's very close to each other, rather than crash it awards equally sized deploy zones to both sides.  We're looking at the available options to see if maybe there's a better way to handle it or if there's a bug that's creating the problem and it's actually unrelated to what I outlined.

Do you recall if you and your opponent entering the map on adjacent VL's?  Amfreville doesn't have VL's close enough together to trigger what I described so that would not appear to be the problem.

Hello RD,

On all maps we had 1/3 deployment, there was no movement. Actually to this point into the campaign the only 2 BGs that moved (first night turn(they were 2 at the top that could move), I didnt move anythg day1 turn1) had correct deployments. I never seen this before the patch so when we first had one I thought it was somethg that was changed in the patch and that it was ok.

The missing mortar teams seems odd and I will be running 2 test, 1 with damage per BG and one without to see if it happens in both, either or none. Reason I say that, is its happened on both GCs ive got going. One I am host and 1 I wasnt. Only seem to be missing in german BGs were they have no reserves of men. Glad for the rest who are having no problems, because basically for me both are finished at this point. Got lot of enjoyment out of them, shame they couldnt be finished, its a great game you guys made.

One final note, could Vista (playing xp puters) be the cause of some of this?

Andrew mentioned re-installing, and I just did on vista and I will do same on xp machine before I run the test on mortars.

Gz..

This is how to create 1/3 deployment

Don't do it.

"To recreate this bug in original CC5, execute all strat moves and save the game before the 1st battle. Exit, and reload save game, and you will have the 1/3 problem."

When playing against the AI in the first battle of the GC, the Allies had two distinctly separate deployment areas. If this was intended to simulate the historical scattering of the paras, it doesn't work because all of the Allied troops could be deployed in one of the areas if the Allied so chose (which I did).

When playing against the AI in the first battle of the GC, the Allies had two distinctly separate deployment areas. If this was intended to simulate the historical scattering of the paras, it doesn't work because all of the Allied troops could be deployed in one of the areas if the Allied so chose (which I did).

The split areas just add a new element to the game. I dont like to ever give up ground given to me to start a map, one of the first thgs I try to do is link that area up (just somethg else that keeps this game fresh). You definilty dont want to have either area to be over run before you do this so care must be taken in how you deploy in each area. The fact this happens at night does make it a bit easier to link the areas.

It also offers your oppenent a unique option on defense. Does he guess which area you might have the least units and try to keep it cut off and possible destroy the entire of group men there? Or does he guess wrong or over commit and his trap becomes your trap? With moral option on, the german player really has to use some caution vs the AB units on thous maps, so keep that in mind if you are playing allies side. Ive had several battles were we both have similar damage in a aggressive style game and the AB units win the turn on moral and grab a few extra flags. Definite advantage you want to use when you can (considering how small your starting areas are as allies, any advantage is a good advantage). [:D]

I suppose if one of the deployment areas is left empty you could attribute it to the use of dummy paratroopers which were historically dropped.

Or you guys are way over-thinking a game. [8|]
