I expected a strike on Changchun like yesterday as this base isn´t capped but Miller decided to attack a capped base instead... we don´t get more than 40% of our fighters into the air and only the enemy escorts are hit hard. The bombers are far from really suffering and as I have lots of bombers at this base I expected to see a massacre on the ground. It was the not so seldomly happening of having a base being clouded in and while you can´t launch, the enemy comes in to bomb you. And get´s "overcast" during his attack... but Miller attacked the oil fields and does nearly no damage (10 points). It will cost me 10.000 supplies to repair that but again, I can easily afford that with the resource and HI centers I capture(d) in Russia. IMO, he should first concentrate to knock out the airfield and then begin to bomb my resource/oil/HI sites...

this is South of Townsville where Miller absolutely missed the chance to completely wreck one of my divs. He achieved nearly 50% disablements within this unit due to air attacks alone but with three more divs moving in he is now the one that is forced to retreat. [:)] An Aussie division, Aussie HQ and Aussie tank btn retreated SOUTH!!! South is good, away from Townsville. The units are now sitting on the road while we are still on the rail, means we will move faster than they do, good chance to force another retreat! BANZAI!

They are forced to retreat back into the base and one again I wonder what that move was good for... only Miller knows... [&:] Moving out two Russian divs to encounter four IJA divs in open terrain doesn´t really make sense to me... easily enough when you defend in the mountains, suicide in a clear hex...

And here´s the really interesting news of the day. Nearly two weeks ago DinahIIIs spotted a TF of around a dozen ships leaving Karachi. As we´re playing on the stock map it was obvious that this TF will head to Australia. Going to Ceylon wouldn´t have made much sense as the ships would have been attacked there. We moved three Glen equipped subs into the expected shipping lane and also moved out the carriers. It´s only kind of a mini KB as the carriers field 250 ac in total, Junyo and Hiyo are also in this TF.

Expect to see some nice results in the next two days... with the Allied struggling in Australia I could hope for a troop loaden TF. Could check the enemy´s av at Karachi if there was a considerable drop in av at some day the last two weeks but I´m just too lazy... let´s be surprised...

My DinahIIIs that recon Colombo and Trimcomalee daily spotted three subs in the port, I guess this is where Miller moves his subs when they get damaged somewhere around Singapore... dangerous place to be for Allied subs as I´ve got enough bombers in India to react to something like that. Needless to say that Trident sunk immedietely but I didn´t get a confirmation of KXVIII being sunk so I expect it now to be heading to Karachi as the anchor symbol disappeared... with luck, it could also be sunk though...

Should have met the enemy TF that was heading from India to Australia but that wasn´t the case. In fact, a sub ended up in the same hex as the TF that is now heading NORTH again! [X(] Miller obviously carefully watches the replay and he´s cautios enough to turn his TF back immedietely after being spotted by our Glen. The carriers are set to full speed North, we should be at least twice as fast as the enemy and if we don´t lose completely track of the enemy we should nevertheless catch them. Will cost us a lot of precious fuel but I guess in this case it´s worth it...

Miller tried to move a "mini fragment" of a US division into the back of our troops at Charter Towers. The mini unit came from Cairns and tried to cut off 250.000 troops in the area of Charter Towers - Townsville. [8|] 8 troops and 2 guns??? [>:]

what is too hard to understand about this house rule? [>:]

cutting off units only with "real" combat units, not some 10 assault point base forces

using a 10 assault base force would be 500 times better I guess as this would have meant at least 4000 troops. Not 8 troops and 2 guns... sorry but that´s off...

now what about that? Miller sent the Liberators from the atoll 9 hexes South of Apamama to attack Makin and while we only get the usual 50% Cap rate, this time it was enough to dish out some damage. The Tony proved to be better than the Tojo in killing the enemy bombers but it was still no total slaughter. But I think that this was quite close to a reasonable result when 90 bombers attack. Well, it´s probably not quite close with the reality being perhaps 12-18 bombers lost if encoutering 90 cannon armed fighters but such results are quite ok I guess... Miller wasn´t amused about this attack... [;)]

Nevertheless, 19 bombers dropped their load, missing the target nearly completely... 11 more bombers lost on their way home which makes it a great aerial victory... Miller gets something like 150 4Es per month already though... it will only get worse for us...

What we need is radar though to see our fighters scramble... nearly 4 more months...

our carriers finally reached the fleeing enemy TF that was heading full speed North. Nice encounter in the Indian ocean and it´s a JACKPOT! [:D] As we more or less expected, Miller was trying to bring ground troops (an Indian division) from Karachi to Australia. When our Glen spotted his TF he immedietely turned it around but our carriers were fast enough to catch it. I´m not that exited by the damage done so far but this is just the first of the morning strikes. A single torp hit on an Allied AK means nothing and Miller will surely scatter the TF tomorrow...

one bigger strike on the enemy convoy and I guess 85% of the enemy TF was either sunk or in sinking condition at that time. The Indian division is probably down to only 30% of it´s strenght or even less. We will continue to attack the rest of the TF in the next days, if I would be Miller I would try to send half of the ships North, the others East or if not heavily damaged South. That way he would be surely able to save at least parts of his division. Would be an excellent week if we could destroy a whole Indian division while being embarked on ships.

As is known anyway, we did not score a single point for enemy ground losses for the losses within the Indian division.

as you can see we´re not doing any bombardments anymore as I´ve ordered all troops to march out. Doesn´t make sense to have our troops killed off just from holding position, they will head back to Ulan Ude to recover and wait for the eng rgts to arrive. H. M. S. D A U N T L E S S



"DRAGON" Class light cruiser ordered under the 1916 Emergency Programme from Palmers Engineering and Shipbuilding Company, Hebbum in September 1916. The ship was laid down in January 1917 and launched on 10th April 1918. Completed in December 1918 she began operational service in 1919. Whilst serving on the America and West Indies Station in July 1928 HMS DAUNTLESS ran aground off Halifax, Nova Scotia and sustained major damage. Her subsequent refit completed in 1930. After further service in the Fleet the ship was placed in Reserve in August 1936. Laid-up at Portsmouth she was brought forward for service in 1939. In December 1942 this cruiser was ‘adopted’ by the civil community of Taunton, Somerset following a successful Warship Week to promote National Savings.

Miller told me I should change my name into Castor Terminator [:D] after our succesful attack on his convoy. Lol, that wasn´t too hard to do. Our DinahIIIs spotted a TF of a dozen ships leaving Karachi and with an expected speed of an average 3 or 3.5 hexes per turn (usually 3 one day, the next four) it wasn´t that hard to send out the carriers at the right time. The three subs in the area helped while Miller reacted absolutely correct in sending the TF full speed back when a Glen spotted the convoy. But by then it was already too late...

as usual, the Allied can see my aircraft transfers. Giving this day´s orders, I moved 200 aircraft into this airfield to fly ground attacks against a Russian division in this area as I plan another offensive to cut the rest of the Russian held territory in two. Miller notices my transfer and orders an attack immedietely... boy how this always sucks, it also must take away a lot of fun for the Allied player as there´s never something like a surprise... stupid, but it´s changed in AE anyway... not just that was stupid, but also the fact that once again my base was clouded in and my bombers didn´t launch while the enemy comes in and gets "overcast" during the attack run... boy oh boy... [8|] Against a US strike I would have lost 100+ ac at this base, the Russian/British attack was shredded though and some two dozen bombers only achieve 3 hits. Pure luck on our side that such a strike doesn´t turn out into a regional disaster for us. The Russian fighters are nothing better than the Chinese biplanes at the start of the war as the Russians now face Tonies while the Chinese "only" had to face Oscars. A pretty ridicoulos 34:1 kill rate against the fighters alone... we bounced the enemy escorts for nearly the whole engagement! [X(]

congratulations on the (once again) great victory. destroying a whole division at sea is easier then in ground combat. but once again, this AAR shows what has to be improved in AE: massive air attacks on a dozend of small TF with one ship in each one. 40 kates against a single AK should not happen in AE.

and if i were in pauls position, i would set my 4E bombers only at 15.000 instead of 26.000 feet so at least they have to pay a small price for this nuke bombardements. sure it is not in the house rules, but i would add it to the list voluntary.

The enemy´s av last turn at Townsville was 1228 and today it´s 441 points higher. There was no unit marching in, nor was there a convoy arriving as my LCUs would spot a TF in the hex. This means Miller is using massive airlift capacity again.

One more thing about airlifting: you may remember me being "unhappy" about using Allied transports from Alice Spring to fly out at least three divisions from Wyndham even though Wyndham was out of range... let´s say I thought this would be strange. Well, what do you think what happens now? My recon flights spotted at least two of those units (division sized) that were flown out from Wyndham marching North on the road towards Darwin. Well, it can happen so quickly that bugs seriously influence PBEMs. Those divs should be dead by now and not marching towards my positions to cut off my troops in the Townsville area. I wasn´t dumb enough to move everything South though, so Miller would have to bring 2000+ av to the party to break through as I have several divisions on stand by to counter such a move... [8|]

Two good news today. We received the first Unryu class carrier today and also the Frances serial production started today, means 1,5 months earlier than it was scheduled. The daitais of CV Unryu are all green units and won´t be combat ready within the next two months. They can be used if we would be in a real desperate situation but I can´t see how that should happen within the next couple of weeks as all our carriers, no, all the IJN is perfect shape.

The Frances bomber will equip all IJNAF medium bomber chutais/daitais within the next couple of months. We hope to have our daitais ready for the next bigger Allied attack which I expect to see either on Baker, in the Tarawa area or somewhere around Port Moresby. Baker would probably the easiest target while Gili Gili or the Solomons would be a hell of a bloody affair for an Allied amphibious operation. We will see. One of our subs near Canton Island was spotted by a SBD and also the ghost TF in this area was hit by a SBD on nav search. This pretty surely means Allied carriers in the area. Either on transit to somewhere or already the preparation for an invasion (which I then would guess Baker Island as the target).

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Miller once again moved a regiment of an Australian division North on the road coming from Alice Springs. I think it was the same that was forced to retreat a couple of weeks ago. Emily recon flights into the road hexes North of Alice Spring report several units coming North, each one by one and not as a stack. Don´t know why Miller moved this lonely rgt towards two of my divisions. His airattacks surely helped but two divs against one Allied rgt is just too much. In a couple of days we will have to fight the units that were flown out with the "magic air transport out of range pick up mission"... I have to be totally mistaken if Miller would really be able to cut me off from Darwin. That would absolutely surprise me. IMO, he should concentrate on defending his areas (means around Townsville) and at some point trying to stop me from destroying his ground units instead of trying to mount another offensive just because the date means that the Allied are usually the ones that do offensives.

At least they can´t attack above the max ceiling of my flak units but as you can see, not one is damaged... ground losses and even more so the hit rate is insane again... more than 500 bombers attacked today and guess how many were lost... a Nikmod result: O N E...

As stratosphere bombing is working so well (far better than expected I have to say), I guess this will be the standard Allied attack method for the future. But hey, there is one thing to strike back. As soon as I will have Kamikazes available (which will be a looooong time as the Allied won´t just steamroll through my positions) I will have HUNDREDS of aircraft that have a higher max altitude than any of the US carrier capable fighters. Guess what that means! [8D] I will send them in at max alt and we´ll see what a Zeke armed with a 250kg AP bomb can do when the Allied Cap won´t be able to intercept it... lolz [;)]

why are Allied guns so much more effective than Japanese ones? When you have 300 150mm guns on one side and 300 on the other side, why are the Allied guns nuking the Japanese and why are the Japanese just hand grenade launchers? Knowing that Allied guns were superior but they also had more of them. Doubt that a US or Russian heavy artillery piece would have five times the effect of a Japanese one... 1000+ casualties per day means in two days the enemy artillery disables as many of my troops as 250.000 Japanese troops doing a deliberate attack while suffering 10.000+ casualties themselve. Thank god I can still mass a hell a lot of troops in one place as otherwise I would really be borked...
