RE: Petropavlovsk recaptured!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Another brilliant plan reduced to brute force. CVs stopped to refeul so they did not make it to Petro on time with the BBs. As a result there was another one sided surface battle that should have been an ambush. I lost 7 DDS and a sub for 4 DDs, 1 CL, and some PCs. My subs did well picking off the escaping cripples.

Airstrikes against PJ were bloody with the final total losses being 211 Allied for 309 Jap. I lost in A2A and he lost on the ground. Again, the CVs should have been in range to attack the ships now no longer covered by CAP but they were 1 hex too far away.

Hoping that this turn finally goes as planned. If it does we have a BB on BB surface action

Air battle: Petropavlovsk!

Post by RUPD3658 »

One of the nest turns of the war for me.

Corsairs from my newly opened AF at Petropavlovsk not only shredded Bettys strikes against the supply laden LSTs in port but also escorted the Helldivers in a strike against the KB. They didn't hit anything but they did get through and knocked out 1/3 of the KB's CAP. Helldivers from the my CVs also sank 2 CLs and 3 DDs with a few more probables.

The air losses for the day were 269 Jap to 91 Allied but the A2A was 240:75.

Petropavalvsk now has enough supply to be a threat to the area. Getting the LSTs through was vital to this.

I have discovered a bug however. None of my ships have been able to refuel there.

PI invasion Phase 1 is now a go for the end of the month.

The last quiet turn for a while. It took me 2 hours to load them all but an invasion fleet will be hitting Naga and Lagaspi next turn. Phase 1 of the PI operation has started.

The north will be quiet for a few more days while Petropavlovsk is expanded and winter restrictions end.

Invasion-Luzon

Post by RUPD3658 »

The long awaited liberation of the main PI has begun. Using a hammer and anvil approach I landed a blocking force at Naga and a main force at Legaspi. These were covered by LRCAP and CVs. Unfortuently one of the TFs wandered away from it's air cover and got hit by bombers from Formosa. The other air strikes were dealt with easily.

This is phase 1 of a 2 phase invasion of the island.

An air drop on Toboali failed to take the base. Now I need to rescue/reinforce the paras.

Surface raid on Urrupu Jima cost me 2 DDs but sand 2 precious APDs and heaviy damaged a 3rd plus sank a DD. I consider this a good trade since these have been killing my subs

RE: Invasion-Luzon

Post by RUPD3658 »

Took Legaspi but not without losing a few transports due to air cover coordination problems. As expected Gordon has rushed troops from Manilla tp Naga. This was the whole reason for landing there. Had I not established a blocking force they would nhave made it to Legaspi. I didn't want a battle on the beach. Once Legaspi is repaired and cleared I will use t as a staging base to bombard Naga.

Trying a CV raid against Ohka-Shalikin next turn.

Wow - how many tankers does he have left?

Looks like the KB is still fairly intact - which ones have you sunk so far?

I sank the Hiryu and 2 CVEs. He sank all 6 of my original CVs in a single day.

Don't know how many TKs he has left but it really doesn't matter. His only oil ceners are Okha, Rangoon and Palambang. Palambang and Rangoon are within bomber range and Okha will be soon so any attempts to move oil by sea will have predicatable results.

Ah, yes. I do remember seeing that - disaster in the Solomons I believe.

Well, you've been pounding him pretty good regardless - should make the PI adventure very, very interesting.

Grrrr[:@]

Once again my plan had too many moving part and small things (like forgetting to cancel "Do not retire" orders before withdrawing LRCAP) fell through the cracks. As a result my surface TF at Naga got nailed. A CA and a CL have sunk with more to follow.

Add to this the fact that my CVs spotted a juicy transport TF with no air cover at Okha but did not attack it and it was not a good day.

The only thing that went right was that Legaspi was cleared out so supplies can now flow to the troops at Naga
.

A rare quiet turn.

I have started a tactical bombing campaign against the resources in the PI. I estimate that the troops there were getting the 600 suppies per day that they needed from the resource centers. With them gone they should be operating in the red.

Quiet turn. I finished off the last of the resources in the PI so starvation should now beging.

Since the weather has cleared I have about 600 4E bombers flying agfainst Naga next turn. This will be proceeded by naval bombardments and followed by a deliberate attack. I give it 50/50 odds of reaching 1:1 but I am hoping to lowed the forts ands suck up supply.

I also have the CVs heading towards Palau in hopes of drawing some over aggressive bombers to their doom.

Petropavlovsk is now a lvl 5 AF so raids from here will be launched against Shikha next turn.

As expected the Naga attack did not succeed but reduced the forts and inflicted nearly as many casualties as recieved.

Strike of Shikka was a success. Air losses for the day were 203 Jap for 60 Allied with A2A going about even.

I could not draw a strike from Palau. I will have the CVs buzz it again this turn.

1st of the respawned CVs have started to arrive
