Problem with CHS 2-japanese side-2nd rnd

Post by kokubokan25 »

In a very late game, sept 44, as japanese, this happen:

Base Bangkok.
The base is level 4, plenty of supply, two air HQs, damage level 0.
In preparation for a inminent allied air offensive, had 280 fighters in a 80% CAP mode.

The allied player launch a Sweep against Bangkok with 170 fighters (P-38s, Spitfires, Hurris, etc..).
My CAP sortie is in the air at once with......8 PLANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:@][:@]

¿How is it possible??¿Any idea???

Perhaps you got up on the wrong side of the bed. Perhaps the target was socked in. Perhaps you did something the game engine disapproved of. I'm having similar things happening at the same location.

A Joke, imagine.[:D]
Perhaps the target was socked in
.

Socked because....???
Not socked, Bangkok never was visited earlier by the allied air hammer.

This answer is very very smart. To me seems like a bug, a CHS bug, i have similary problems in Darwin, 300 fighters based and never more than 30 planes in CAP. Imagine try to defend the evil japanese empire with this problem...[:@]

Base is overstacked for starters. 50 times the airfield size is allowed and then penalities set in. More than 100 times the size and the penalties are so severe it isn't even worth it.

How many other planes do you have there?

If you have more than 400 aircraft at Bangkok it will be worse.

What is the morale of the units based there?

CAP leak?

CAP leak happens when you have several bases in close proximity. Your planes will automatically divert to protect these other bases. The only way I can think of to avoid this is to make sure the base isn't overstacked and then tell your remaining planes to LRCAP and select Bangkok as the target. A base force with Radar in the hex should help. The second Air HQ is probably overkill.

Nope.

Only 280 fighters and two daitais of recon planes (around 30 aircraft). Total 310 planes.

Good morale.

None another base operative in vecinity, only Bangkok on-line, other bases empty or destroyed.

A level 4 airbase can have a total of (50 x 4[airbase size]) = 200 aircraft before penalties are applied. You have 310 which means it is overstacked.

I don't think we communicated well with my explanations. CAP leak will happen when you have nearby bases that are unoccupied. Whether or not the airfield is functional is irrelevant. I have even seen my planes occasionally provide CAP over an enemy base. On the CHS map there are several bases near Bangkok. Maybe your Air HQ is re-assigning the aircraft to cover other bases.

Other than what I've stated, I don't know what else could be the problem.

Thanks, you explanation is clear now.

However, i cannot belive that the "penalization" of the game by overstacked 100 planes was reduce my CAP from 160 fighters (at least) to only 8 planes!!
I think is a bug, probably currupted save in some early turn, now continue playing and had similar problems in other bases like Darwin, Balikpapan, Tarakan...
In Balikpapan, only a daitai with 27 Shinden, CAP in 80% and only 2/3 planes take off in every raid.
