Should my CV Captains have high air or high naval skills? I am noticing that many of mt CV captains have low air ratings with one Brit CV Capatin having a 5.

Well, if you expect your CVs to get into a surface action, then the naval skill help you.
Otherwise, I'd focus on the Air skill...[:D]
 
I have no idea why, but many of the CV/CVL/CVE commanders have horrible air ratings.  I look for Air skills over 60.  While they are hard to find (you don't have many captains with decent air ratings in the excess pool), you can also comb thru your CA and CLs, to see if their captains have decent air ratings.

Good idea. I will see if Tracker can help ID some misassigned CV captains in the surface Navy.

Undoubtedly, all those guys commanding your carriers back in the beginning of the game that went and got themselves sunk had ratings of 5... so, the whole mess was the fault of BuPers! [:-] [:'(]

You must have higher Air Skills for CV captains, Bombardment or Surface TF you want higher Naval Skills.

I am not sure entirely what difference it makes, however im guessing there must be some difference, I just haven't noticed it yet.

I think I may have noticed it, most of my allied cv captains are resting in davey jones locker bout now.
