Diamond Coast is a playground for the cruel and corrupt, each with their own agenda. Choose your friends wisely and buy an army of ruthless mercenaries to unleash mayhem on your foes. Few Questions

Post by Anthropoid »

I've gota few questions about the game some of which may be bugs, so I'll repeat those in a thread in the Tech help section. I'm patched to 1.08 and playing vanilla.

1. I cannot seem to move members from one squad to another. My first Hyena squad was Me (skippy) Taran, Billy Bob, Jabby, Castor, and Shaman. I've played through about 3 or 4 sectors with this squad and had about $70K in cash so I thought it might be a good time to hire another squad. Hyenas was in the "HPP" Dam sector

I hired Lin, 105, and Fisher all into "HPP Squad 2" "Zebras," and could not get anyone from Hyenas to move into Zebras. When I would left click on say Taran and then move his pic down to Zebra's squad row the row was redded out, though I could move him to the other squad slots. There must be some trick I'm missing here?

2. How do you climb towers? I was unable to climb the towers in the Dam "HPP" sector.

3. Does the game end when your starting character die or not? I just attacked Road to Airport with both squads and my guy "Skippy" got shot in the head for -80 and immediately dead, but the tactical battle kept going. To me that is not very realistic, and I should not be able to finish the game playing as one of my employees!? Would it have told me I lost if I finished the battle? In any event, I think what I'll do is just delete my old saves and start over.

4. I think I found a bug of some sort. When I tried to have Fisher fire his 40mm grenade launcher it caused the screen to lock up and all the militia tab icons just sort of quivered.

I can provide saves for all these if asked soon enough.

ADDIT: 5. Another one, I've seen where some guys say they are "working for Janus." How do I work for anyone else? So far I have not got any messages from any other "clients." Is there a way to take control of Sectors for myself instead of for Janus?

ADDIT*2: I still have not fully figured out the camera controls. Is there more to it than just double clicking on the soldier icon, right click mouse swippping, and zooming in? Sometimes I can manage to get my camera zoomed in exactly how I want but other times I cannot, and it almost seems kind of random. Trees it seems interfere with zooming, even with 'T' turned on, and also it seems harder to zoom earlier in combat . . . once you start killing enemies and getting more of a clear view of the area it seems a lot easier to zoom. Is this all Working as Designed, a bit clunky, or is it just me? One possible factor is that I have been using an old mouse, so maybe that is the problem . . .

I've never used more then 1 fire team so I do not know much about your first question sorry. :(

Climbing a tower is alittle tricky, It is easier if you run your merc over too it and then click on the ladder leading up to it. Like most things though there are times when this can only be done in combat mode and not free movement.

I always end up with a gameover screen when my beloved Avatar takes one for the team and goes down. Does that happen on all maps for you or just one? It could be a bug.

If I recall there is a post kicking around here on the fourms about who you can work for and how to do it.

As for the camra are you useing a modded camra file setting like you can find in the FoV post. Or is it default? The Default camra is limited alot in it's movement and has a hard time moveing around trees and stuff.

Not sure if any of that is any help.

Much Love,

for your fire teams, are they in the same area ? or do you have them in two different places, they got to be in the same place to join each other ?

as said, yes you can climb the towers, just got to hit the right spot on the later

not sure, as in real life, I knew when to duck, so have never had my "guy" take one for the team

there are more then one faction, think there are 4 that you can work for, at some time or other

the camera mod helps alot, just don't drop the numbers too much, very easy to go underground with the camera

Fire teams in same area, but still won't switch members; will keep trying and if it seems generalized might try to report a bug.

Tower: finally got a guy to go up one in North Base area. I noticed someone else said on the boards that "not all towers are climable." That is slightly annoying. Also noticed that some buildings cannot be entered [:@] Esp. annoying when it causes a game crash.

The camera: I'm now getting the impression that one of two things account for my difficulties either (a) you can set a "zoom" spot on the mini-map and away from that spot your zooming is highly limited, along with the fact that trees screw it up; or (b) you can zoom more within a certain radius of the squad leader. Last night repaying the HPP sector, I had guys along the northeastern edge of the map on the high spot. I could zoom in around my lead guy, but could zoom much less when I sent a couple squad members off farther to the north. Amazing detail when you zoom way in and really helps to get your guy exactly at the right spot relative to topography.

I'm now playing with Foraven's mod, so maybe it has the camera mod included and that is what is helping?

the switching troops around bug was suppost to of been fixed

some times you just need to save and reload, other times, just move around a bit

I not really seen anything you can't climb like towers or ladders ?

most buildings, if you can't get in one way, there are other ways (and sometimes, those ways work better :)

(of course, some buildings are stronger then others)

So what exactly is the difference between 9x18 and 9x19 ammo? Different cartridge length?

I was gonna ask you another one Sarge: what does "OC" but then I stumbled on this [;)]

are you using any of the mods ?

but off hand, the OC is Russian for Hollowpoint

not sure/forget about the TT, but from the weapon type, that may be Russian for Short

(Ie, the 9mm, has a cut down round called a .380 to us, 9mm kutz to them, Kutz means short, not sure though)

So what exactly is the difference between 9x18 and 9x19 ammo? Different cartridge length?

basicly, just like the 7.62x51 and the 7.62x39 or x54, the cal of the round is the same, but the case length is not (which can also mean, more powder, more power, different round shape)

also found something I didn't know, the 7.62x51 Nato is not the same as the .308 winchester

So Sarge, as someone who has actually served and (I'm inferring based on your comments) served in infantry combat, do you think the game pretty well represents the tactical decisions of squad-level combat?

I thought I liked the Close Combat system, but I frankly like this system MUCH better. I hope that this engine will not just expire; it would be neat to see it expanded, fixed, tweaked, modded, etc. Lots of interesting mods for this game!

in a very simple manner

as I think I have said a couple times, I wouldn't in real life hire any of these guys, they couldn't cut it

in real life, there are alot more things going on, alot more things you could be doing, trying to do, and in here, you still pretty much have total control of everything, the troops, the views, the weapons

it is a good, decent game, that gives you a feel for it, but it is still cardboard troops, living and dieing out there

(H.G. Wells, once made a comment when asked about the WarGame Craze going around, the best thing about war games is that the cardboard soilders do not have cardboard wifes and families to go home to)
