What should be in a briefing?

Post by Grymme »

As the title of the thread says. What should a scenario briefing contain. And in what order. It could be cool if scenariocreators could in some way agree on some things.

Here are a couple of suggestions. (or rather what i do)

1. Background
1a. Scale
1b. Credits

2. Basic rule changes
2a. Season effects

3. Regimes
3a. minor regimes
3b. major regimes

4. Peoples

5. Locations/terrain

6. Units

7. Events

8. Research

9. Victory conditions

10. Production / Reinforcements

11. Scenario variants

12. OOBs

13. Map with description.

So basicly i am open for any suggestions/feedback. Should there be any things. Should something be removed. In What order? What should each section contain? What should be mentioned in the background? What should be mentioned in the scale etc...

Any ideas....

Personally I prefer briefings to be fairly short and to the point, and certain things could for instance go in a text file, or in the description on the AT website, so as not to make the briefing text too big. Certain things that are nice to know, but not critical for the gameplay are things like credits, scale, and I guess also background (for the war/conflict etc) and things like peoples and location would also be covered there. Listing regimes tells you enough of who the participants without going into further details.

To cover your points, in my opinion.
1) Not needed in briefing
2) Very important
3) Important
4) Not needed in briefing
5) Maybe, but often not needed. If the scenario is on the eastern front, everyone will know that.
6) Only needed if there are special units, or units programmed to spawn during the game etc
7) Critical events certainly, though not necessarily in great detail, you can have the events themselves provide detailed info when they happen.
8) Only if this is different from default, IMO it would not be needed to mention it if it is just the research % that is changed, you'll see it easily enough when you open the research window.
9) Important
10) Locations with special production (like SS troops) certainly, and units spawning during game. Add info if scenario uses variations of hardcore logistics or factories.
11) Yes
12) Usually not needed, but if the scenario covers a limited historical event, this information can certainly be added.
