RE: Invasion-Luzon

Post by RUPD3658 »

I guess I scared Gordon out of Naga. His troops slipped away while I was bombarding. This screws up my plan since I had planned on landing at Lamon Bay and then trying to cut off the troops at Naga from Manilla.

On the plus side my mass air raid on Manilla this turn should destroy lots of supplies. I might even try a bombardment.

Air raid on Okha bagged some Helens on the ground. Driving them away should allow my subs to mine the base.

Yawn.....another quiet turn. Only somewhat exiting event was that my bombers caught a TF trying to sneak oil out of Okha. Sank 1 TK and damaged 2 others. There is fighter cover there now so I doubt I will get any more but at least that is 100 fighters I don't have to face elsewhere.

Landing at san Jose next turn to start pahse 2 of the PI operation.

RE: Invasion-Luzon

Post by RUPD3658 »

Freakin Jap sub put a torpedo into one of my BBs near Kwaj. I thought that their days of terror were over.

KB has been spotted naer Okha. Curious to see what Gordon does with it. Petropavlovsk is a hornet's nest of fighters and bombers.

Landed at San Jose for phase 1A of the PI invasion. It's capture will give me a base to cover future landings from.

Operation Turkeystone

Post by RUPD3658 »

Raid on the Marianas was not quite a "Turkey shoot" nor was it as effective as Operation Hailstone but it did succeed in sinking a few ships, damaging several others, and destroying about 50 Jap AC for minimal losses on my part. I will try to run down the damaged ships next turn.

The other goal was to cause Gordon some stress so the missions can be considered a success[;)]

The AFs at Saipan and Tinian look darkers so there may be an airbattle next turn. Maybe I will get my turkeyshoot after all.

Only the DD and an MSW sunk so far. I am hoping to run down the others as they try to escape. I am also ordering a follow up strike against the port since 5 ships are reported still being there.

RE: Operation Turkeystone

Post by RUPD3658 »

I am considering changing the name of the Marianas raid to "Operation Kidney Stone" due to the pain it is causing me. Freakin' surface combat TF did not keep up with the CVs and got caught without air cover. They all should survive but several have headed for home. Now in order to keep them from getting finished off I need to change my plans and take a turn to get everyone back in the same hex and under air cover again. Coordinating keeping 6 TFs together is like trying to herd cats. [:@]

Overall I am pleased with the raid. I destroyed 300 Jap AC for the loss of about 100 of mine plus sunk 5 AR, 1 AS, 1 AD, 1 DD, 7 PG/PC, 5 MSW, 1 AE, 1 AK, and 1 AP. I also killed several 10+ kill pilots in the process. No amount of milk runs against Chungking can replace these.

I will be retiring soon since I don't know if the KB is on the way.

Low point of the turn was getting ambushed at Appari and losing 8 DDs for nothing in return. I got into a predicatable routine and it cost me.

RE: Operation Turkeystone

Post by RUPD3658 »

Looks like the decision to cover the damaged TF was a good one. All of the Bettys strikes this turn came from Truk and would have nailed the damaged ships as the headed back to Rabaul. Instead several more Jap AC were shot down. The Cvs also hit a AK convoy at Guam sinking the entire thing.

Massive raid on Palau shut down the AF and destroyed lots of planes. Total for the day was 200 Jap vs 70 Allied.

The gathering storm

Post by RUPD3658 »

Taytay was captured and cleared. Yet another 55th Divison fragment was destroyed. I killed this unit at Jesselton, Brunie, and Miri before. My guess is that it is in the PI too.

Bad weather has forced a pause in the air war. Big things will be happening soon.

RE: The gathering storm

Post by RUPD3658 »

Last quiet turn for a while.

Massive 1000+ AC raid is set against Takao for next turn. It is coming from 4 separate bases (Naga, Legaspi, Tacloban and Cayagan) so I am hoping for a coordinated strike or it is going to be costly for me. CVs are also set to raid the Marianas again next turn.
