Tactical symbols for German armored cars

Post by Audie Murphy »

In the current version German armored cars, both 4- and 8-wheeled., have tactical symbols of halftracked units.

symbol 16 - armored car
31 - wheeled
32 - halftracked

Even if they belong to a Panzergrenadiere division, the symbols stand for them as individual vehicles.

The following battlegroup icons need this fix:

134 to 199
146, 147
168 - 170

There are two symbols that would fit armored cars, "armored car company, wheeled" and "armored car company, halftracked", the one used for armored cars now. In this case, the company would need to be a mixed one and include halftracks as well as armored cars.

If that is the case, we can keep the current symbol.

Thanks for posting Andrew.  Here's the site Steve had saved that I used for reference:  http://orbat.com/site/ww2/drleo/011_germany/symbols/_symbols_43.html   The  site from which the chart Andrew posted came from.  There's considerably more detail at the website.   There were three or four other references but this one was the primary one.

At least now you can see the reasoning for the choice.  In the end history is an interpretation of an interpretation.  Although, facts about static details are slightly more solid and knowable than facts about events.

Always good to go through the exercise of scrutinizing the details one extra time.  Thank you!
