Did Heller make a Washington kit? They are the only kit maker I'm aware of that made 1/400 scale ships. Though I think there were some Revell kits with odd scales like 1/426. I don't recall there being a Washington kit in that series though.

This IS the USS Washington just after the conclusion of another refit at Puget Sound Navy Yard, mid September 1945. She arrived at Puget Sound on June 28, and was undergoing her refit when WW2 concluded. She is in an unauthorized version of the MS22 paint scheme. This is the refit where she received her new bow after receiving a temporary stub bow at PHNY.

Hate to disagree, Tom... but the rebuilt bow was fitted in March/April of 1944. This picture was taken on trials after refit in 1945, but that was normal (AA upgrade, I believe) refit.

Quite right, Rev! [:)] I've got my refit schedules amiss! She did get her replacement bow in April 44. The pic that Brady has posted is after the 45 refit.

It was almost 30 years ago... must check Bill...

BTW, I know for certain (i.e. I have them as well) that heller made 1:400 Richelieu and 1:400 Arromanches (ex UK Hermes I think)...

Battleship design appeared to make a quantum leap forward just before the war broke out.  I know it was mostly due to the treaties limiting construction between the wars.  Many countries went almost 20 years between battleship builds. 

The modern BBs had much sleeker lines than the old WW I tubs.  American designs were particularly nice with the fully turreted secondary batteries and very business like main turrets.  The crane on the stern gave them an unmistakable silluette even at a distance.

Many other contemporary American ships had nice lines too.
