To me the Nell always looked like they took design tips from the French.

Clearly a Nell and I agree they have clear signs of pre-war design, like the poor French bombers (especially the ugly Amiot) that were stigmatized here [:)]. Could it be the Nells that went after Force Z?

I would bet they are Nells at Saigon, yes.

Nells in the early war would almost have to be from Takao or Saigon. The other option would be the Home Islands.

I believe Nells and Betties were used in the attack on Force Z. The Nells did the level bombing.

I always associate these sepia-toned photographs with pre-1941 times.  These Type 96s could have been involved in operations in China.  Has the censor obliterated part of the markings on the tail of the nearest aircraft?  I am guessing these are from Kisarazu, Kanoya, Takeo, 13th or 15th Kokutai, as I think all of these units were active in China pre-December 1941.  Can't see anything else to assist in their identification.

G3M2 Model 22, it is[:)]

.........

I dont know for shure, as the image source is vauge, but I beleave these are likely shots from china as well.

The Planes apear to have pairs of 250kg bombs slung under them as well.

Nells and Bettys Hit the PoW and Repulse, Nells carried torps and some carried 500 kg bombs while others carried 250 kg bombs.
