Holey-Moley - you've racked up an incredible amount of kills over the past week. Even if he committed all of his aircraft currently on training, it barely covers one day of losses. You've turned this operation into a real meat-grinder for his air force & with his carriers now basically denuded of planes (and damage inflicted), it will be quite some time before he comes at you again.

Good job.

I would really love to pursue the KB and finish it off but the risks are just too great at this time. I have taken huge AC losses and don't think it is safe to go against his LBA right now.

I will post sreec shots later and as well as some stuff from Tracker. Air losses for the month are apporaching 3000 Jap planes and about 1000 Allied.

If you can hang around & see about backing up your surface forces (and sinking or wounding a bunch of his), it'll be worth more in the long run than chasing after the KB into his own air cover.

Again, good job & no reason to go charging ahead when you have an operation to wrap up in the Marianas.

A check of tracker showed that air losses for the month of April were 3487 Jap to 1538 Allied. While this looks great for the Allies keep in mind that I am still trailing in points and need to score 2:1 just to make progress towards victory.

Here is the score for the day

RE: Carrier battle at Tinian

Post by RUPD3658 »

Hit 33 more mines at Tinian but it is the CD gun fire that is killing my ships. Most of the second wave is now ashore so I hope to take the base soon.

KB escaped without having surface elements make a run against Tinian. Gordon sent me an alternate save with a surface raid and I would have made out pretty well.

CVE Shah sunk but no further Jap CVs have sunk. I am hoping that the Zuikaku and the Zuiho sink.

I don't understand the "Alternate Combat Report" thing. Did he run the turn one way and decide he didn't like the results and redo the turn? Do you have some sort of gentleman's agreement about such things?

RE: Carrier battle at Tinian

Post by RUPD3658 »

First attack on Tinian failed but it at least lowered the forts.

Lack of communication (Read lack of attention to detail on my part) led to unauthorized and uncoordinated strikes against Pagan.

CVL Zuiho sunk so the day was not a total loss

RE: Carrier battle at Tinian

Post by RUPD3658 »

Shot down 90 brave but stupid Frances.

Big night raid planned against Singapore for next turn. I am sending 300 of my best air crews (85-90 exp) against a base with 1000+ AC. I am hoping that they can hit something.

A shock attack has been ordered for Tinain too. I need a port fast or I am going to lose even more ships. I am having 5-10 a day sink from CD gun damage sustained while landing.

RE: Carrier battle at Tinian

Post by RUPD3658 »

Night raid destroyed 45 AC on the ground for only 3 Ops losses. Overall I was not impressed.

Shock attacks at Tinian made good progress. Forts are down to 3 so hopefully the base can be taken soon. Then the search from members of the 8th CD gun Rgt begins. All will be shot for sinking over 40 of my ships during the landings.

Look at it this way - that will be a lot of guns you won't have to fight somewhere else. Pain in the butt, I certainly understand, but it should make things easier later on.

(Plus you can start pounding Japan by air once you've secured the airfield for B29s)

Gordon has been nice enough to expand the AF to a level 7 for me. I have 200 B-29s just waiting for a mission but I may use Tinian as a B-24 base to suppress Guam, Saipan, and Iwo Jima first. I might consider bringing in 1 squadron of B-29s for mining missions though.

Tinian Captured!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Good and bad day.

Captured Tinian and plastered a wayward convoy near the PI.

Bad day was that I forgot to reset my AC ranges after switching back to day missions and my bomber flew into a buzz saw of CAP at Singapore to go after MSWs.
Similar screw up with my CVs. I had switched air groups and forgot to put the CAP back up. Luckily the flak saved the day.

RE: Tinian Captured!

Post by RUPD3658 »

More rookie mistakes. I thought I switched all the LCUs at Tinian to ground attack but the armored units that can't bombard went with their old shock attack orders and attacked on their own. More needless losses.

Had a CV and a CVL hit mines at Tinian. I have little choice at this point since the AF is not operating yet and there are too many ships to leave it unguarded.

Several plans are starting to form. Things should get interesting soon.

RE: Tinian Captured!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Hit yet more mines at Tinain as follow up troops arrived. I should have tons of MSWs by the end of next turn so the daily ship losses should stop soon. Due to these I have barely broken even on points for the last few days.

I nailed a ASW TF full of the new PC class sub killers. My subs will breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they don't have to face these.

Big CV raid planned against Iwo Jima for next turn. I need to get my offensive moving again.

RE: Tinian Captured!

Bonin got thumped. Pilot quality is beginning to show. Even Georges are not doing well any more. I guess all those A2A losses I sustained were not in vain

RE: Tinian Captured!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Last holdouts at Tinian were cleared out. I will wait about a week for the minefield at Guam to be clear then invade. Saipan will be last due to the CD guns there. Once Guam is captured it will become the B-24 base used to supress the other bases in the area and Tinain will become a B-29 base for missions against the HI. We have agreed that B-29s will only be used for City Attack missions.

Still debating what to do in the PI. The original plan was to land at San Marcilino with the troops I later dierted to the Marianas when I saw it was weaker than expected. I can muster about 4K AV at this time without pulling troops from the Maraians. I am assuming that the LCUs in the PI are slowly starving so there is no real rush to mae a move there.

I also have about 4K at Petropavlovsk that I need to find a mission for. I was thinking about Okha but I don't think I have enough units (Naval or LCU) to commit just yet.

Right now the main plan is:

1. take Guam
2. Take Saipan
3. Take Iwo Jima
4. Do something in the PI.
