The Fatal error 999 problem is back

Post by AW1Steve »

Has any one recently had the Fatal error 999 problem lately? I've read up on it , and seemed to have stopped some time ago. I just had it hit me. I don't want to do a re-install if I can help it, as I've several games going. And yes, I do have Norton and webroot.

Actually "fatal error 999" will never go away - it is one of many error codes that essentially mean an installation is invalid.

A full reinstall should correct the problem.

Thanks Joe! All fixed for now....And thanks to everyone for simplifying the "nature of the beast" for those of us "not as technolgically inclined". Along with "the 3-finger salute (control, alt, delet)" and "reload, reboot and repent", I now need to learn the WITP "wiffledoo"--re-install, re-patch and if necessary, lather, rinse and repeat![:)]

Well there can be many causes for good ole 999 ... but if Anti-Virus related - you may be able to find a list of "quarrantined" files in your AV quarrantined list - if so one (or more) of these may be WITP files which need to be added to the exception list.

Otherwise, the general solution to 999 is reinstall.

After my latest virus sweep WITP does not run. I checked the quaranteened items but nothing on there than
bugs. Now what?

Well if reinstall of WITP does not work - then uninstall of AV - and install of different AV would be indicated. Some AV programs are user friendly and allow exceptions to mis-identified quarantine objects - mine do - I use Trend, Symmantec and McAfee on various machines - but not sure about other AV programs.

Used the exception button on the AV and reloaded the program now it works fine. Seems the latest update from
the Spysweeper company does not like WITP.
