Letters from Iwo Jima
Hello. I know you guys don't like PH so was Letters From Iwo Jima an acurate account? If not, which of the Pacific Theatre Movies was the most acurate?

RE: Letters from Iwo Jima
I liked it, and it was certainly more acurate than many flicks out their on the subject.

When was the last time a movie was accurate? Better ask those that were really there, though their memories are fading fast.

I thought it was an interesting perspective. I enjoyed seeing things from the other side.

Same here. Excellent piece of film-making.

It did a good job of making you feel sorry for the guys on the wrong end of a flame thrower. While the politicains started the war the guys on the bottom who had to fight it were all pretty much the same.

Fantastic movie

Wake Island. Now that movie is completely flawless in it's historicity.

Yep... good movie, good story-line, good acting, and equipment/uniforms were realistic.

Strangely enough, based on actual events (that happened in early 1942) and probably as historically accurate as The Movie That Shall Not Be Named! [X(] [:D]ORIGINAL: jeffk3510

I thought Letters from Iwo Jima was better than Flags of our Fathers.

I enjoyed it. More importantly, GF unit enjoyed it. If she enjoys a war movie it has to be good. [:)]

Ditto, Watanabe is an excellent actor. Last Samurai was hit and miss for me, but he was good in that as well.

I dunno, that fact that some Japansese questioned the authenticity of the portrayal in Letters (including folks who initially backed the film), leads me to think maybe they have a point. The dog shooting scene for instance, just doesn't ring true for me; nor do a few other things with the more extreme Japanese characters.
Of course, it was great to see a US film shot from the Japanese perspective. I prefered Flags though.
