RE: Some additional AE information...
OK, so I was going to try WITP in windowed mode. Am I blind? I don't see an option to run WITP windowed anywhere in preferences.
How do I run WITP (or more importantly AE when it comes out) in windowed mode???
Sorry for being thick headed here... Please help. [&:]

You have to execute witp with the -window option on the command line. It isn't a "preference".

How? Please explain. I'm not used to editing game files to get something to work.
BTW using WindowsXP here.

We expect AE to be released in the second half of July. The manuals have not yet "landed" but they are currently on schedule to arrive in our warehouse in that same second half of July. As soon as we have confirmation that the manuals are safely in hand, we will release the game. We are very close to gold on the development side, currently we are checking a gold candidate and it looks like the next build will _probably_ be the gold master.
The confirmed pricing for AE will be $59.99 Download / $69.99 Physical, which is $10 less than War in the Pacific. We will also be discounting War in the Pacific for a limited time to coincide with the release of the Admiral's Edition. The goal of this is to make it a bit easier for wargamers who may first hear of WITP/AE because of the AE release announcement to "buy in" if they wish. We recommend that gamers who have not played WITP purchase and try that first before deciding to upgrade to AE.
The Admiral's Edition _requires_ that you own and have installed a copy of War in the Pacific (any version) on the same system where you plan to install AE. If you have not, AE will not install and will not run.
AE does _not_ install on top of WITP, but it requires it to install and run. After you install AE, you will have two separate working games. You can continue playing WITP and any ongoing solo or PBEM games without interruption while firing up AE and getting started with that.
When we are about a week away from release (our best guess) we will release the full AE manual in the Members Club to get you started. This download will only be available to those who have registered their copy of WITP.
Regards,
- Erik
A question.... "those who have registered their copy of WITP"..... when i purchased the game 5 years ago i was using a different email address and had a different forum name ('Buzzz123'). Now when i try to register the game it says something about the key already being used - i guess i registered the game when i got it under my old name. HOW do i re-register so i can download the manual when it comes??
Thanks.

Now try clicking on the 'full screen' button (the little square button on the top right of the WitP window).
Does that work?

I had this problem, also going back 5 yrs. Took a while for the helpdesk to sort it, but now its ok. Theyve shifted my game serial number to my new members account and got rid of the old one that I'd lost the details of. Problem seems to be solved. Be patient though!

You could change display resolution for a larger WitP screen and maybe choose a black background for windows desktop. However, maximizing your window won't work.

RE: Some additional AE information...
It's normal what you get here. Windowed mode is obviously small as it's only 1024X768 pixels, but at least it gives a clear, sharp view as it is pixel-matched (so physical pixels match the ones rendered by your VGA).
Clicking the full screen button in windowed mode just does this what you got, it keeps the original size and just splits up the rest.
If you run the game in normal full screen mode (so without the " -w" switch) it stretches out to whatever your screen size is and will span one VGA rendered pixel out to 4-5 physical ones).
The 3rd solution is that you get WitP pixel matched into the midle of your screen and the rest goes all blank, so not even the backlighting is working - this can be adjsuted from the driver usually.
It's up to you to decide if you prefer a sharp but small or a large but blurry view - since the resolution of the game can't be adjusted you still get to see the very same interface and map area, no matter what you do - the full screen setting just magnifies things and usually in a incorrect ratio - so you get a distroted view not just a blurry one.

I posted a helpdesk issue a few weeks ago and nothing happened. I repeated it a couple of weeks ago and got a reply saying it was being dealt with, and then yesterday something from Alex Fielder telling me what had been done. Got there in the end.ORIGINAL: Flying Tiger

Well, that is a disappointment, but it isn't a show stopper. Witp was made five years ago after all before wide screen monitors were the majority in home PCs. Now however with wide screens making up over 2/3 of all monitors on the home market. Not to at least make it so AE supports wide screen aspect ratios if not higher resolutions as well seems, well.... negligent for lack of a better term. Like I said, it's not a show stopper for me. I'll still buy it, but only because it was said that it will be addressed in a later patch.

I don't know why so big issue about screen size at least in this situation, if you put the screen resolution down WITP will get bigger. I pick a book and sometimes i read one small, other big ones etc. I don't stop buying a book because it is small.
Where is that?

RE: Some additional AE information...
It’s not a problem for me either; I run it in windowed mode on my 17inch (1440-900) HP laptop. I can then run WitP, WitPTracker, Excel spreadsheets, and any other program I care to run all at the same time.
For me this game is not about big flashy graphics, it is about operational warfare on a map. For old style wargamers like me who came from tabletops and living room floors it’s about the game play not the graphics.

I have found that the intellectual quality of a computer game seems inversely related to the quality of the graphics. I have begun to theorize that the amount of time available to deliver a game to market that will make a profit is fixed, the developers simply choose where to spend it.ORIGINAL: DivePac88
