Manchukuo garrison

Post by Dora09 »

I think I already know the answer to this but I want to make sure:

Is the Manchukuo garrison counted by total AV with in the borders of Manchukuo or is it the number of AV that is asigned to Kwantung? The reason I ask is that I have a division that is in Kwantung that is asigned to Southrn Area Army but I am very close to the 8000 pt cap and I can't afford to bring the Soviets into the mix.

It's more complicated than that[X(]

The border is made by four hexes being the corners of a rectangle that covers Manchukuo and includes Korea and a small portion of the Home Islands.
I'll try a search of the forums - this came up about 3 years ago !!!!

like FOW said, it´s not just Manchuko, it goes down nearly all of Korea and the Northern parts of Japan. People sometime use the home island divs to bolster the garison numbers when moving a couple of divs North, but in a PBEM this could be thought as a bit gamey. The AI doesn´t care and isn´t capable of doing a ground war anyway so you wouldn´t need it anyway.

found it [:D]

The assault value of all Japanese LCUs in Manchukuo counts towards this garrison requirement. Manchukuo is defined as a box with the north edge of the map being the north boundary, hex rows 56 and 71 the east and west edges, and hex row 37 the lower edge. The assault value of all Japanese units on or inside this box add up to the garrison requirement.

I cannot offer any guarantees as to the accuracy of this info......

Also remember that there is only a small random chance of Soviet activation per day - it's not automatic

Could someone draw a map with the region, where I have to keep my garrison? I'm quite confused and the info of FOW isn't quite helping here.

FOW was pretty clear, I think.  It's a box.  The North side of the box is the North map edge.  East and West sides are columns 56 and 71.  The South edge is row 37.  You can see where these hex rows are by clicking on a hex in the area, checking it's coordinates in the corner of the screen, and then see what area is included in this box.

This means for example the Base "Wakkanai" on the stock map would be in that box and I can move some troops there to take more troops out of the Kwantung Army?

I currently don't have the stock map to check that base, but I do know that there are some bases in Korea and the Japanese Home Islands where you can stash LCU's and have their AV count toward the total, which can allow you to move excess AV from elsewhere out of the region.  It sounds like you have it now.  [:)]

And to answer the question, no, the HQ of the units "in the box" doesnt matter. What matters is the number of AVs. Personally I tend to send out all the engineer units from this area. They can be VERY handy.
