More About Finances

Post by KG Erwin »

So, can franchise success be measured by how much money the team has in the bank? Yeah, it's a rhetorical question, but in PS terms, we gauge success by W-L records and pennants won.

I'm using finances in my 1946 association, and I have several "on-loan" veteran players whom I'll let go to FA. Sure, I'm in first place at the moment, but I'll still gonna have to rebuild at the end of the season. The GM aspect doesn't appeal to many players, but I decided to accept the challenge. I've also accepted the fact that baseball is a business as well as a game.

I'm editorializing here, but newcomers to the game must weigh incorporating financials carefully. To be good at it, some accounting/bookkeeping experience might be helpful. Shaun thankfully gave teams a generous treasury, but some tough decisions still have to be made.

As seasons pass, some good veteran players will languish in the FA pool, as their requested salaries vis a vis their POT ratings will conflict. The AI GMs are NOT programmed to adopt "the future is now" signing strategies. The human, however, can sign a vet pitcher or position player for 1 year just to add insurance. I've already adopted this strategy in some of my trades.

In conclusion, this game is underrated in its depth, dependent on the manner in which one plays it.
