Clearly I am malfunctioning here, but I cannot locate any of the more current patches for HCE. I downloaded .44, but cannot locate the newer patch, beta or otherwise. Also, why is the demo a more current version of the game (2009.020)than what is downloaded when it is purchased??

The 2008.044 is the latest official public patch from AGSI. 

The latest Beta 2009.036 release is here:

The Beta patches are not in the members area nor on Matrix ftp.  They are on a third party server.

Well, that much isn't true, 2009.036 is available in the members area, Matrix just named their file wrong as 2009.035.

We've had some very (some might say unexpectedly) stable builds since the 2008.044 patch and there was no defensible reason to go backwards 6 months or so in development in order to release a patch at the 2008.044 level where the game was less stable and significantly less capable so we made the demo up to date at the time and that happened to be 2009.020.

The file that's in the member's area is dated 21 May and is the beta patch.
