disappearing air units?

I'm not sure if this is a bug but I had 2 x strength 2 Italian air units (lvl 2) on Sicily pounding Malta for over 2 months, then the next turn, both units were gone.

I didn't see any combat record of them being destroyed either due to ground combat or naval bombardment. On another turn, one of my air units in North Africa also disappeared.

Supply in both cases didn't seem to be an issue and I had enough PPs to pay for maintenance as it was in mid 1940s when the three units disappeared.

Anyone else had this happen to them?

Only thing I can think of is that those '2-strength' units to 2 hits, and were thus destroyed.

It can happen for instance, if they intercept during the AI turn, and take losses.

There was some talk in RtV, and hopefully this will be done, about disallowing any air unit that is at half-strength from intercepting.

Air unit which has less than half of its strength does not intercept.

GeorgePatton, the most probably your weak units were order to perform airstrike and didn't succeed. It is worth to look at the top of game window before any airstrike (in order to check which precise airunit [its name and strength is given] is to perform the attack).

Hmmm well I do know that my two air units did not do any interceptions since Malta didn't seem to have any air units except for a single land unit and neither did I see a report on any carrier interceptions during the naval phase.

well just curious if anyone else had this problem.
