Admiral Sprague

Post by jeffk3510 »

Why isn't Adm. Sprague (wasn't admiral at the time) captain of the USS Tangier at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th in WITP?

I was playing stock with the most recent update... and was playing War in The Pacific scenario and noticed he isn't captain. IT REALLY ISN'T A BIG DEAL...

I do know that this is minor, but I was bored last night and looking for all of the Admirals from the SNES PTO game to see where they were in this game and their stats....

SO I looked up Sprauge and found out he was in command of the Tangier during the attack, just curious why he isn't in this game.

Don't want to go all nit picky, just curious.... [:)]

You can't have an officer that can command both a ship and a task force.

Ok that makes sense.  Does he show up later in 42' or 43ish and can command a task force?

why not? [&:] Probably more than 90% of the TF commanders are only ship commanders in WITP. Everytime you create a TF without "autoselect commander" or without manually picking one, the commander of the flagship is also the commander of the task force. Probably more than 90% of the time...

In every game I've played, he (Spruance) is available very early. That is very good, since he really took our chestnuts out of the fire in a little place called Midway.

Big OOPS for the Reverend.

Sprague, not Spruance. Taffy 3 not TF16. Considering the situation he found himself in he and his men/ships done pretty good.

Well, I'll be dipped in gook. That's what happens when your eyeballs and brains aren't on the same wavelength - the reply output becomes utter gibberish compounded by hammered horse poop!

You realize of course there were two ADM SPrague's. Clifton and Thomas. C.E. Sprague was commander of Taffy 3 while Thomas was the commander of Taffy 1 at Leyte

I'd imagine so...[X(]

Heard that phrase from a Navy chief bosun boot camp instructor who was trying to teach a bunch of fumble-fisted city boys how to tie knots. He saw one that had gone wrong and told the poor lad that it looked like 40 pounds of hammered horse (insert correct naval terminology for poop). That impressed me so much that I forgot it was my knot he was describing. I have ever since used it to describe things so FUBARed that even a Navy chief couldn't figure it out.
