Amphib assaults too easy?

From the front lines in France and Russia to the deserts of North Africa and the airfields and convoys of Britain, the campaigns of World War II are yours to command in WW2: Time of Wrath! This turn-based grand strategy title, the highly improved and expanded sequel to WW2: Road to Victory, puts the player in charge of the political, economic and military decisions of one or more Axis or Allied nations, including minor nations.

Amphib assaults too easy?

Post by Bart_Breedyk »

I've always been interested in the sort of 'grand strategy' wargame that Time of Wrath falls into so I didn't hesitate (long) before getting myself a copy. I started a new grand campaign as Germany with everything set to default levels except for a few graphics preferences. Thus far things have gone remarkably well for the Germans; Poland, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg have all fallen. Denmark and Norway have capitulated without a shot being fired. Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Italy and Spain have all joined the Axis and Russia hasn't declared war on me yet. So in the Fall of 1940 I find myself on the West Coast of France wanting to invade Britain. After a month or more of moving, upgrading and replenishing units I attempt the invasion. Having no idea how to do this within the mechanics of the game I had a few false starts but eventually a surface force of some 16 German warships escort an expeditionary force of 2 Infantry Corps, 1 Armoured Corps and one Armoured Division across the channel to invade Portsmouth. Two turns later the deed was done and German convoys were entering Portsmouth harbour with both supplies and reinforcements. Apart from some casualties on the landings, these are the only losses they suffered before Portsmouth fell. The British Navy, which had sunk two small amphibious forays earlier, never even contested the channel crossing. The British airforce, which had been a very real and very potent thorn in my side in the battle for France, never even put in an appearance and were destroyed by German armour on the ground South of Edinburgh.

So I'm wondering if I've just been extraordinarily lucky or has anyone else noticed this? I realize that I'm playing the AI here and that a game against a human opponent might be something completely different, but I expected things to be a bit more difficult than what I've seen so far. Perhaps I will try a new game with a higher difficulty setting.

Hmmm, I don't have the game, but what bothers me more than the AI is how could Germany supply anything serious through the Channel ???
Did you eradicate the RAF and then the RN to get supply flowing ? THAT should be the main difficulty - and that's definitely why neither Napoleon nor Hitler invaded England... OTOH if the game allows 'magical' supply through any port without need for ships, it's seriously broken...

Nice. Then it's not that amazing for the Germans to crush England once landed and with German sea control : the British land army would have been easily beaten by the Wehrmacht imho, they had very few men/units.

I've always had to fight for them, esp. Norway. How did you do that?

Was this by clever diplomacy? How did you do that, too. [:D]

No mon ami, the sentence is "RAF and RN"... The latter existed. But I admit the sentence is a bit uncorrect...

BTW, just bought the game, nice but it crashed on turn 4 of my Fall Weiss first game, bleh.. [:(]

If this will happen again after loading Autosave, please deliver ConsoleOut.txt and archived Autosave folder. Tech support thread is the best place for it.

Bleck,
Re the console log, it doesn't say much, even after translating the polish text [:D], will post in Techie forum if it happens again [:'(]
