Detail Question

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Compared to this game, they didn't have detail at all. I loved those games but this blows them out of the water in every aspect...

War in the East was IIRC, about 20 miles per hex. Our game is 10 miles per hex. Same basic Division scale, although we have some brigades and Germans can split divisions into 3 regiments. The level of detail in the units is much greater (individual squads and vehicles as opposed to one combat factor). A full air game instead of just air points. It is turn based, but you can attack and continue moving instead of having distinct movement and combat phases. The original War in the East is one of my favorite games of all time, and I'd like to think that this game is almost as easy to play as War in the East, but bigger and with more details that you can spend your time on if you want to (or ignore if you want to).

Joel-

Could you comment on the decision to leave the ability to change production out of the game?

Thanks much.

Boy, talk about beating a dead horse...This decison was made like 8 months ago. Other posts here have said "why"...I personly like it as it takes a gamey aspect that WIR had out of game play...

This is going to be an awesome game, all of us WIR nuts feel it in our water and we hope y'all hurry up with the testing and release[8D]

Still, some of us are just a little glum that on June 22,41, among the zillions of other things we will need to do, we wont be able as supreme commander to order factory X to stop producing the crappy PzII and switch to PzIII and factory Y in Prague to stop producing the Cz38t(e) and switch to PzIII and factory Z in Vienna to switch from Me109 to Fw190.

Now if the testers tell us "dont worry, on Jun 22,41 no factories will be producing PzII or Cz38t(e) and you'll be producing abt forty 190s a week anyway", the glumness fades into insignificance[8D]

Gary wanted to put the player more in the role of OKH dealing with just the Eastern Front, instead of the entire war. If/when we get to War in Europe, you'll probably have the control you're looking for.

Thanks Joel.   I appreciate the response.

I am sorry if you consider asking a question to the guys building the game beating a dead horse.   I don't think I've been disrespectful or impolite in any of my posts.  I certainly haven't called any of your answers evasive or incomplete.   As previously stated, I consider this ommission a flaw, but not a fatal one.   I've enjoyed WIR since the day it was released and am sure I will enjoy WitE.

At the risk of straying from my politeness, I would suggest a bit thicker skin.   As interest in this title grows the discussion/suggestion/complaints will multiply significantly and a "trust us" response, will garner significant heat.  Most of us are believers in trust but verify.
